Hifiman Edition XS Launched

I am curious how these compare to the original AEON closed. I am interested in replacing the AEON with these.
The Edition XS have wider soundstage, more air and more detail. The AEON Closed have better and more present bass and sub-bass.

The build quality of the AEON Closed is FAR better, if that matters to you. But the clamping force is pretty high, which isn't the case with the XS.

I recently picked up an edition xs and have been listening to it for about two weeks. I love the soundstaging and seperation but I am not completely satisfied with the bass. Mainly sub bass.

Example music
Hey Now by London Grammar min 1:15
Hurts Like Hell by Fleurie min 2:30

The bass notes in these songs are perfect examples of the lack of sub bass presence.

I was wondering how these songs would compare on an Audeze LCD-X. Any insight would be very helpful.

I'm powering the edition xs through a schiit lyr+

I owned the XS for about a year and now own the LCD-X 2021. The bass on the LCD-X 2021 crushes that of the Edition XS, in quantity, quality and note weight, with or without EQ. No comparison.

I also owned the LCD-2C, and the bass in that model is even better than the LCD-X 2021, at least in terms of rumble and quantity. But its soundstage is more narrow, mids more honky and top-end detail considerably less prevalent than the LCD-X 2021.

The LCD-2C is a great rock or metal headphone due to its punchier, present bass and sub-bass, more aggressive mids and rolled-off treble. But I wouldn't wear it for classical, jazz, acoustic, etc. The LCD-X 2021 is more of a Goldilocks all-arounder. It does nothing exceptional but it does everything very well.

I see. I listen to all kinds of music including jazz and the LCD-X seems like it's what I'm looking for. How about soundstaging and imaging between the LCD-X and XS. While the main reason I'm looking at the audeze is for the bass. I'm not willing to sacrifice the things I like of the xs.

Soundstage definitely wider in the XS. That's a real strength of that headphone.

Imaging is a push, at least to my ears. Both very good.

I don't want to depict the LCD-X 2021 as this Goldilocks all-arounder and the Edition XS as a specialist can. That's untrue. The Edition XS also is a very good all-arounder, but the LCD-X 2021 has significant edges in bass quality and quantity, note weight, a more forward general signature and more aggressive, forward mids. Oh, build quality, too. The LCD-X also takes to EQ like no other headphone I've owned, if you're into EQ.

Both are fine headphones. The XS has the advantage of costing $500, while a new LCD-X is $1,200. The value-to-price ratio is up to the buyer to decide.

But put it this way: Do I miss my Edition XS, which I sold to help fund the purchase of a used pair of LCD-X 2021? Not at all. The LCD-X really work for me.

Not necessarily. Not in this hobby.

But to each their own.
This is your third reply to my opinions today in this thread. Man, you seem to be personally affronted that I don't share your deep affection for the Edition XS. It's a fine headphone. But I think the LCD-X 2021 is considerably better in most areas and worth the price.

Not sure why that's such a sesame seed wedged into your gums. EVERYTHING about this hobby is subjective.

Happy listening!

Thanks for the help.

Didn't notice. I guess, I concentrate on the topic and not the author.

Would be helpful, if you did the same.
