The trick is to deactivate your headfi account and stay away for a good while after you find something very favourable

That's probably a great start, while avoiding all magazines and trade shows/meet ups!

There is no true end game, the hobby is evolving way too fast to get one!

Or just don't get tempted to upgrade

You can always move on to your DAC, Amp, cables, source...

what happened to cause you to send them in?

For a couple of months last summer, HiFiMan had an exchange program for original HEX owners. You sent in your V1 and they sent you the V2 back--free of charge. (Well, except for the $500 difference between a V1 $1,800 and the V2 $1,300 MSRP.) I emphasize  "exchange" because it was just that. Old V1 exchanged for new V2--completely different headphone.

They did a similar thing with the HEK V1 and V2 at the same time--but with money being paid for the upgrade.

Oh yeah. Sounds better to me and weighs nothing in comparison.

I looove my lcd3 especially the mids but it's too heavy. My champ for now is my Grado GH-1.

Do you think I would be satisfied with HEX V2? What do you like better vs LCD3?

Are there people who liked this can better than lcd3?

Me.
Lighter, more comfortable, better 'musicality' for want of a better expression. Great bass, very deep and fast enough for me, although the 'slam' of the LCDs bass is harder. Trebles slightly more relaxed than the LCDs but the extra comfort means I'll have them on my head for longer.
Better soundstage (wider) and when you put them on, it's as if you can hear straight through them. Also cheaper than the LCD-X by about £400 for me.

agree x100.

I am really missing my old HEX. Such a special headphone. Rare to get right on your first go, but I think they're end game for me, and they were the second set of cans I ever purchased.
