Hiby FC6 - another R-2R USB dongle
Apr 29, 2023 at 1:44 AM Post #151 of 416
Hi, unfortunately the FC6 firmware update guide as given on store.hiby.com is incorrect. The site includes all the files you need, but for actual instructions you should refer to the file "flashtool_usage_en.pdf" at https://bit.ly/3JTS5Al instead.

Or, one may also refer to Andy's video on this: https://youtu.be/mKGlFfKL4-Y

Unfortunately because of the Chinese labour holiday we are unable to update the site info at the moment. We will update it ASAP on 4 May.

@Joe Bloggs looks like there are multiple units having the same issue with static noise in os mode.

is this a known issue that's going to be addressed with a firmware update?

Yes, I noticed that too. @HiByMusic @Joe Bloggs any chance this will be fixed with the next software update? Or maybe the reason is poor implementation of R2R, and nothing can be done about it?
I said 1000 times, Hiby release half baked products priced like top notch products.
All their products should be priced 30% (if that) of their actual price.
To make analogy it’s more or less like if some Chinese car manufacturer attach well designed cheap shelf components in form of 5m long vehicle and put Mercedes S class price tag.

@Joe Bloggs just to add that OS static got really audible on sensitive EST IEM - most easiest way is to check on such - please share with the team. I think it should be an easy fix.
Try turning off HDR mode, I rather think that is the likely culprit. It's supposed to enhance performance in most cases but this is a known possible issue.

Thanks for the suggestion but that means to switch from OS to NOS mode. Anyway the static noise is less audible but still there in NOS while compared to your FC3 dongle or Questyle M15 dongle there is no static at all. Hope this helps.

Your work in this thread and the short reply are disappointung.

How do we turn off HDR in OS mode? Isn't it on by default?

Also, HDR doesn't turn on during mqa rendering. And there's still static during mqa playback. So the issue is likely not related to HDR at all.

Hoping you will take this issue seriously as it's being reported by at least three users now.

There are talks on how people don't like L&P for their somewhat deceptive advertising and little-to-none customers service (especially for the international audience), but they did release a firmware fix for W4's Qualcomm 8 Gen 2 power supply issue in a week or so after it was reported. Meanwhile, I have been waiting for the FC6's Qualcomm 8 Gen 1 clicking noise fix for almost two and a half months now after I reported it. Real efficiency there, folks.

It's currently not switchable in and of itself on the FC6. Sorry about that.

On the RS6, where it *is* switchable, it had been reported to be an issue on some electrostatic headphones, starting here
https://www.head-fi.org/threads/hiby-rs6-android-dap-snapdragon-660-4-64gb-5”-full-hd-darwin-r2r-fir-nos-mqa-16x-copper-chassis.958878/post-17367435

Hence the suggestion, although, it's obviously not currently implementable in and of itself, sorry about that.

I had a chat with headquarters about possibly having it toggle-able by itself in a future update, but first let's see if it is indeed the culprit.

Regarding my lack of contribution, I've been working this past week on a new processor for our R android players that will literally revolutionize how anyone listens to music and talk about Pace, Rhythm, Attack, Timing, dynamics, etc. etc. Your headphones not sounding dynamic enough? Press this button and turn this knob! This track flogged to death by the loudness war? Press this button and turn this knob to bring it back to life! The solution to global warming, world hunger and everything in audio? Press this button and turn this knob! I believe me and our company can be cut some slack for this.

Regarding the glitch ClieOS mentioned, we do believe it is an issue caused by nonconformance of the Snapdragon 8 series chipset to the full USB standard. (a bit like David pointing the finger at Goliath, I know, but there you go). We have already been trying to work around the issue, unsuccessfully it seems (or, we might have been trying to fix it too hard for exclusive mode (which is fine as ClieOS reported) and forgot about regular). Stay tuned.

@ClieOS as mentioned there then, it appears to be caused by nonconformance to the USB standard on the part of the Snapdragon chipsets. It is not guaranteed that we can bring out a fix to the FC6 to bend it out of spec to match them, while also ensuring continued good functioning with hosts that actually conform to the USB standard. Ethically it is Qualcomm that needs to bring out a fix, not us.

Funny that's exactly the same kind of reply when L&P was questioned by many W4 users for the W4's power supply issue on 8 Gen 2 - First, they said Qualcomm needed to bring a fix because the issue is caused by how 8 Gen 2 behaved with USB devices, but then L&P developed (*in a week!!!) a fix on their own anyway - and now W4 has no issue with 8 Gen 2 anymore.

Guess I am just very unlucky type of person as I have 20+ USB dongles and FC6 is currently the only one affected by this nonconformance, or perhaps I should have just learned my lesson and moved on? Hmm...
