Ok, so it's that time of year when I get money for my bday and christmas and I am looking to spend it on some open 'phones.

I am absolutely in love with my klipsch image x10 I purchased due to the sale and I have and love my d1001k.

However, I am looking for some good, balanced, open headphones in the $100 price range. The reason I am keeping it so low is that I'd like to purchase a hotaudio.com usb dac to power them.

I like all divisions of rock, some electronic, some hip-hop, some jazz, and some folk/indie so basically a little of everything.

I am looking for something with more clarity than my 1001k and with a more neutral sound signature.

Your suggestions will be appreciated.

I agree. You could also consider the HD555 but they are a distant 3rd. The MS-1 and AD700 are both much better in my opinion.

so for around $100, is there anything that can beat the ad700 for all types of music?

I will be using these headpones with a NuForce Icon desktop DAC.
