Hey! First of all, I'm new here and don't know that much about headphones but I always wanted a good pair, and now that I got an LG V20 that has an AMP/Q-DAC I'm really looking to buy a decent pair.

I'm going to use them exclusively for listening, paired with my LG V20, so I don't have an AMP or DAC, besides the one inside the phone. Now I don't know how good it is, from what I was told it's actually pretty decent. I used a pair of DT 770 PROs 80 ohms and the difference was huge compared to other phones I tested the pair on, or while I had the DAC turned off on the phone.

Now, I was looking for a pair with good bass. I'm going to use them to listen to Drum & Bass mainly, but EDM in general. Made a playlist with some songs so you guys can get an idea of what i usualy listen to: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLItt-MhWY6SBRqluG4S00HbeBPdE1YAn8

Here's a list of requirements I would like for the headphones:
  • Good and strong bass
  • Preferably above 50 ohm (so it triggers the high impedance mode on the phone)
  • Closed back
Also, here's what I was considering atm:
  • Sony MDR-1A
  • Sennheiser HD 25 II
  • Audio-Technica ATH PRO700 MK2
Since I'm going to use them purely for listening to music, not production or anything like that, I don't need them to be very sound accurate, or sound flat. Just want a rich sound, strong bass and high volume.

Sorry for the long post, but I was thinking it's best to put as much information in the first post rather than having people search all over the thread.

Thanks!

I think the Sony MDR-1A seems to fit the bill perfectly.

Damn. Just checked again and they have an impedance of 48 ohm. Not really a deal breaker, but it's a shame I can't use the phone at it's max potential. I will go and test them nonetheless later today, hope they sound good and the volume gets high enough.

Keep in mind that volume is a question of sensitivity as well. I think most people run the MDR1A unamped, so that really shouldn't be an issue. With that being said, if your hearing is bad or you want to really crank up the volume for bass tracks, you should invest in an amplifier anyways.

I usually like playing at louder volume for the bass. My hearing is good (at least I hope so lol). But after seeing the difference with the DAC off/on on the phone while I was listening to the DT770s, I was hoping to get the most out of it with this new pair of headphones. I also tried a pair of Branwavz HM9 on the phone, which do not trigger the high impedance mode, and I would have preferred them to be a bit louder.

Philips X1 (if you can find a decent deal on a used pair) or X2
If IEMs are okay, maybe the Hifiman RE600s v2
