Throw me an aim/msn message, I'll help you keep your life simple...

Why recommend a portable amp with such a power hungry phone like the 650's?

Seriously though, do your research, I can only offer one opinion out of thousands.

Read up on the RS-1 and RS-2( use the search ) , the 650 and all others you may be considering. This will give you some idea on what to expect.

Thanks man. I really appreciate your help, all of you guys. I think maybe I'll save for another week so I can go ahead and do the RS-1 route.

Just curious though, how much more expensive can headphones get?

you don't want to know

let's just say there are cables that can easily buy you a car

for now, have a look at Stax electrostatic products

But in that price

Maybe a Meier Audio Cantate from the USB of the laptop and some HD600s or maybe even HD650s

I don't see how you meen $600 isn't even breaking the surface

. Most people don't spend more than $600 on one pair of nice headphones, atleast people with normal incomes. I would think for any normal person that could get quite a nice setup. But maybe I'm wrong...

we're not normal around here you see...

it was more in response to the OP initially believing he had a huge budget, when in the grand scheme of things was not very big at all...
