hey guys ive been looking to pick a new pair of headphones for under $200, the pair i have now are decent enough and are good portable headphones so im looking to get a new pair that would be good for just keeping around the house, definately looking for over-ear or noise cancelling

i dont know if this makes a difference but i listen to mostly rock/metal and not rap so if there are headphones that are better for rock i would rather get them

Just wondering if you might want to rethink the noise canceling part since you are planning to use them around the house.  Noise canceling might limit your options quite a bit.

I am also looking into new headphones.  I want closed HP but not necessarily noise canceling.  I am seriously considering the ATH-WS70 or maybe a pair of Ultrasones.

Good luck with your search.

sr225i's are completely open, so no noise canceling

i have to say that grados have alot of treble.  too much so for rock imo. but from what I remember, the 225i,125i, 60, 80 are not that bad. the "upgrades", such as 325i and above, killed me with their highs.

Treble is where it's all at, dawg.

You might want to take into account the comfort issue of Grados, as they are not circumaural. I listen to mostly rock/metal and I can tell you while the 225s do sound great, they are not for extended listening. I ended up getting C-Pads (headphile.com) to counteract this issue. And if you really want to make the rock, amp them with something like a Little Dot I+ (or better), although they do sound just fine un-amped.
