Has anyone here tried the KR Audio 300b XLS? Itching to try another 300b and trying to choose between these or Takatsuki. Currently I have new WE 300b, EML 300b Mesh, and then the stock Gold Lions from my HA-300 MK2. Regular KR Audio 300b (non XLS) is also an option.

Elrog will happen soon but for now it’s between the KR and Takatsukis :)

Hello guys and Merry Christmas!
I`m looking to upgrade the power tubes in my single ended tube amp. Now I use Genalex Gold Lion PX300B. Thomas Mayer from Elrog helpfully informed me that their tubes use thoriated tungsten and are not recommended for SET amps on which the 300B filaments use AC, which is the case with my amp, because there would be more noise:

So, if I cannot use ЕR300B by Elrog (which will be only available from May, 2024) can you point me towards alternative top-tier solution?
Thanks and happy holidays!

Nothing to write home about. Now, if you can find them, the KR-Audio 300B Riccardo Kron Anniversary Editions are nice tubes. Very warm and beefy, with some heavy-hitting low end. They don't roll off as bad as the WE's on top, but they don't exactly "sparkle" either, like a Takatsuki does (which, IMO, is a bit anemic). If I were going to blow some money on non-Elrog tubes, those would be the ones to find and get. I saw a pair in the Classifieds not too long ago, and they pop up from time-to-time on USAM. IMO, YMMV, etc.

Good to know, thanks buddy. I've heard conflicting feedback about the Takatsukis. Some people absolutely love them, others not so much. Definitely will have Elrogs in my future once I find a pair (ER300b is super delayed according to Thomas.)

Will try to find a set of the anniversary editions. Any of the Audio Note 300b tubes worthwhile?

I wonder if Elrog production is all tied up with the collaboration with Feliks.

I'm sure he's got a run going for Feliks. Wouldn't surprise me if he ordered like a thousand to put in all his amps, DACs, etc. like he did with KR-Audio once upon a time. Since his son got "sick", I think that relationship dried up and he's looking for another "big name" tube maker to replace them.

A batch of ER300b-Mo recently shipped, but I want to start with ER300b, which will be a few months. I know I'll eventually end up with all of Elrog's 300b tubes, but gotta dip the toes in first haha. Trying to not do what I did with Hifiman and go from HE6se v2 > Arya Stealth > Susvara in three weeks

I am in the process of buying the Elrog ER300B-Mo. I already have the Western Electric 300B and the Elrog ER300B. I know the Elrog ER300B-Mo are supposed to be the ‘brighter’ version of the ER300B.

To me the WE300B sounds ‘brighter’ than the ER300B. Be aware, sounding more bright differs from being extended in the treble. There is a slight treble ‘sharpness’ in the WE300B that is not present in the ER300B. This has nothing to do with treble extension. The ‘sharpness ’of the WE300B treble is all the more apparent because, at least compared to the ER300B, it is also bass light. Please do not worry, I love the WE300B. I love its fluency, its elegance, the air around instruments, the big acoustic stage it provides. I also love the ER300B, the resolution, the fantastic timbre, the bass depth and definition. The ER300B suits all types of music very well.

I mostly listen to 20th century classical music. For me, the perfect 300B tube should have the fluency, the elegance, the air around instruments, and the big acoustic stage of the WE300B combined with the resolution, timbre, bass depth and control of the ER300B, but without the slight treble ‘sharpness’ of the WE300B. Can some of you, with experience of all three tubes give me some indication how the Elrog ER300B-Mo fits in. Why is it referred to as brighter than the ER300B, how does it relate to the WE300B in terms of tonal balance, airiness etc. Your input is much appreciated.
