Headphone Tube Amps - The hunt for all 300B TUBE AMPS
Feb 11, 2023 at 10:57 PM Post #1,936 of 2,843
I've tested my original Elrog 300B brass base (last of TM's takeover) on my Amplitrex 1000 and they're extraordinarily strong at over 3000 hours.
I should test my ER5U to the Mullard GZ34 but that means I need to put many more hours on the ER5U.
When you say that the Elrog300B tubes still test strong at 3,000 hours what measurement do you use? Is it one measurement or a number of measurements?

Jeff.

Perhaps I am mistaken, but didn't I read that Thomas warned of being of being on borrowed time with the brass base version?
Glad that they test strong and you may have a great pair that lasts many years!!!

I have had many Philips production GZ-34. No notch, 4 notch, fat base and metal base that tested off the charts strong. One of the truly great rectifiers

The brass version represents pre-Mayor.
My pair happen to be the last brass under Mayor production.
You can look at several measurement sets, with mine, using the Amplitrex AT1000, emissions were still at 100%.
This pair will serve as a strong reference point as I do my best to approach 10,000 hours, and will give my many back up pairs confidence in their future.

That’s approx 5 1/2 yrs @ 5hrs a day 😳.

While browsing Aliexpress today I came across a chinese tube manufacturer that I couldn't find any previous mentions of on head-fi - Golden Voice tubes with website at gvtubes.com.

They have four different 300B models, two of which are higher end models, "WE300B Plus" (first picture, $880 for a pair") and "300B-H" ($350 for a pair) which is described as a "replica lite" version and then two lower cost models "300B" ($150/pair) and "300B+" ($200/pair".

Yes, "300B+" and "300B Plus" are two completely different models, the latter being the top model.

They can apparently be purchased from their website and some of them are also stocked on one Aliexpress store ( Hifipart Store ), which also has its own website at www.hifipartstore.com.

Anyone know something about these tubes?

What're some recommendations for 300b amps that sound great but are relatively compact? Specifically looking at synergy with ZMF Caldera and Abyss 1266 TC. Love the WA33 but its massive. WA5LE also a bit large.

Is the issue width, depth, or height (or some combination)?

The Felikz Envy is more modest (in comparison).

Width and depth are an issue, not enough room on my office desk with all my papers everywhere and don't want my staff looking at me crazy lol

What kind of space are you working with? What about getting a rack and going up with the Woo WA5-LE? You can get Woo (or someone else) to make you a custom umbilical cord to give you the ability to stack them - now you're only about 10" wide. Depth is still an issue though.

I think you should tell the boss you want a bigger office!

That’s not a bad idea, I guess I could purchase a small lockable rack to keep in the office. That’ll open up my space to about 3 ft x 2 ft for the rack / cabinet

Haha I wish, but all offices are same size except for the big wigs

I have an EC Studio B on my office desk and I can assure you, your office colleagues are going to look at you funny no matter how relatively big or small your tube amp is. Mine do and I just embrace my eccentricity. Also, I think the huge dual mono Flux Volot SS amp next to the Studio B pushed me over into crazy a while back.

I was in the same boat, and had trouble finding a commercial lockable rack for my office. So, I built a very much DIY lockable rack with Ikea bamboo cutting boards:

Then, to accommodate more and bigger equipment (including a Supratek 300b preamp), I made a lockable rack with larger 3-ply bamboo plywood:

I definitely get weird looks from all my work colleagues, but they're also kind of used to it at this point. And I get to listen to music all day every day!

High end penitentiary. Perhaps the one prison I'd like to visit.
