Hello,

I recently purchased a Schiit Valhalla and would like to have your input as to a set of can's you'd recommend for it. I stumbled upon this article at 6 moons: http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/schiit/8.html which has helped me a great deal, but I don't want to buy a pair of headphones more than $300... ie. the audio-technica W5000 or Grado PS-1000.

Another area of concern is my input source... PC! I'm using an Asus Xonar DG http://www.asus.com/Multimedia/Audio_Cards/Xonar_DG/ which has the following specs: http://www.asus.com/Multimedia/Audio_Cards/Xonar_DG/#specifications . It has a high-gain feature to boost the signal output to 1Vrms (3Vp-p). I'm using lossless music as a reference (Miles Davis - Kind of Blue - 96 kHz - 24 bit) with AKG Q-701's.

Thanks,
Brian

Hp suggestions:

*d2k=$215 shipped from jr's (prominent but impressive bass line) And on the other spectrum consider:
*Hifiman he400 $360 from moon audio and $300 here on the used forum (lifelike transparency and wonderful soundstage using the planar tech...see my review in sig for more info)

I'm guessing it's better to leave the Xonar DG on the lowest headphone gain setting and up the volume on the DG.
Or just set the Audio channel to "2 channel" and Audio Output to "Speaker".

Why is it best to leave the gain low, of course to even use this feature it has to be on headphone.
Thanks,Brian

With the gain on low, I'm assuming (guessing) less chance of adding noise to the double amping.
Some like to leave it on "headphone" so as to use Headphone 5.1 channel surround sound, "speaker" is just 2 channel.
