After 8 years have some static in my volume wheel. I can live with it but it’s problematic in long run. Not a diy so In no rush but looking for quality ss that can drive anything thrown at it in the future
So, I'm liking using the WA33 EE JPS as a pre to my CFA 3 a lot. The CFA3 is retaining some of the WA33 EE JPS qualities, while also being very clean. I previously thought the 3ES, with it's 300B tubes, was better, but now I don't know. Perhaps the WA33 transfers more of the tube sound than the 3ES

Must be the classic issue where the DACT attenuator needs to be cleaned? Thankfully those old school stepped attenuators are mostly gone from the industry now.
The CFA3 is good, but it almost requires a tube pre. I like my Dukei version, but it didn't live up to the hype. It's good, but it's not better than my WA33 EE JPS. I guess it souldn't, given the cost, but I expected more. Maybe I'm just a tubes guy. The bass is a little bit better than my WA33 EE JPS, but it's missing some of the 3D sound.
our CFA3 is being made with JFET input which is a lot more expensive than the standard bipolar and works much better without a pre-amp in front - and the reputation of FETs being that they sound more tube-like compared to bipolar/BJT. We've also been tweaking the gain levels trying to find what works/sounds best. The standard gain settings were pretty low considering the amount of voltage swing available. Not every source is putting out 5 to 12Vrms, so those with <1 to 3Vrms sources will appreciate the higher gain.
