Hdd player with line out, lossless support, good sq?

There seems to be almost none reasonable options for HDD players with line-out which play flac out of the box (+ 10 band EQ which should be in every player by now).

How has it come to this? Have all just accepted to convert all of their music collections to alac and bound their souls to apple products?

Options Menu.

Select 'Headphone' or 'Lineout'.

Socket then becomes what you selected, either volume controlled headphone amp output or fixed volume lineout (whereas iRiver H1xx series have variable volume Line Out).

You can get a 5 or 5.5 generation iPod and "rockbox" it. With a high quality interconnect and an amp, you can get very good SQ imo...

Sony NW-A3000 features a real lineout... But be warned it required SonicStage.
