Hi everyone

First of all, I've had enough of headsets crappy output ( former Razer Megaldon user)

I am planning to get HD800.

I am seeking advice for the perfect combination (amps/DAC/cables) to run this monster perfectly. As well as the PC to Headphone wiring and setup (for a starter).

For now, I will be plugging it to Creative Xi-Fi blaster.

Little tips about my daily usage:
- Budget is 2k US dollars (expandable if gears are really worth purchasing)
- Average music (pop, rock, classic & jazz)
- Movies of all kind

Update: I got few suggestions throughout furoms:

dacs
  1. NAD M51
  2. Schiit Gungnir

amps
  1. Eddie Current S7
  1. Woo Audio WA2
  2. Schiit Mjolnir
  3. Violectric V200
  4. DNA Sonett
  5. Marantz PM-11S1 Reference Integrated Amp
  6. Integrated valve amplifier (vacuum tube)

P.S: I am honored to be a member here. I should've joined this website 10 years ago, when I started my audiophile passion.

Thanks in advance,
Em

I continued looking onto this headphone and I can see how good it is with gaming and movies.

Thanks for the first two posts but that did not answer my question. I will be appreciating more experienced people to guide me gear up my upcoming HD800.

My HD800 setup consists of the following...

DAC = Audiolab M-DAC

AMP = SPL Phonitor

CABLES = Stefan AudioArt Endorphin (Headphone, XLR Interconnects, Power).

All told this is a very nice combination with the HD800, however it will cost you at least double your budget.

BTW,  The HD800 is not a bassy headphone by any means. That's not to say it doesn't have bass when called upon, it's just that it has a tight, more refined type of bass.  It is not bloated in the bass region, therefore many bass-heads find it not to their liking.

My current HD800 is a little more moderate:

DAC = Cambridge DacMagic
Amo = Headroom Maxed Out or SAC KH1000
Interconnects = Yarbo and Switchcraft

And I most agree, if you are somewhat of a basshead, then the HD-800's are definitely NOT for you!

never mind... not going to waste my time retorting.

I don't see why you're acting like I've offended you.. I don't even know who you are..
I am only seeking advice, when did I upset you here? :)

As of an edit to the main post, I have removed the "bassy" feature out of the list since most of the people didn't find it in the HD800. I don't mind that at all.
I am looking for this headphone especially, I do have major interest in it's abilities of entertainment.

I have a local seller of Burson Amp (HA-160D) and DAC (DA-160).
Are they any good combo with HD800?

I would start creating a short list of other potential headphones for purchase.

Focus on the HD800 please :)

Well.. with your listed amps and dacs and the HD800 you are far over your budget.

First, thanks for replying!

Secondly, I can expand the budget as long as the Amp/DACs are worth getting for the long run.
I am not planning to replace what I purchase as long as they will be healthy.

A perfect match of amp/DAC and cables is what I am seeking to buy along with the HD800. I don't mind doubling the budget for the ultimate long-term entertainment.

Also, commenting on your quote means that some of the amps/DACs in my list have got your attention ? does that mean that either of the amps/DACs listed can be a perfect combo or is there a specific brand, like schiit's?

I enjoyed this with the HD800:

KAO Audio UD2C-HP

(Saw one sell used that would have made your $2K budget with HD800 possible.)

I feel quite confident towards the Mjolnir/Gungnir combo. Now cables/interconnects are my concern.
