Just received a set of HD-800 connectors this evening in the hope of building a cable for a friend.

I knew the connectors weren't all that big to begin with, but once I pulled it apart, I was rather taken aback by what I saw inside.

THIS tiny little thing is what the geniuses at Sennheiser came up with for their full-size, $1,400 statement headphones?

Are you !@#$% kidding me!?

No wonder their stock cable only uses something like 28 gauge wire. That's all you'd ever be able to get to fit in the pins' solder cups.

What a !@#$% joke!

Not with the camera I have at the moment, no.

I can give you dimensions if you'd like.

btw, is the connector also spray-on silver?

Yeah, for 28 gauge wire.

Seriously, five of these HD800 pins would fit in the ass end of one of the Cardas HD600 type connectors.

No, but I have worked with similarly sized plugs/jacks before.

Point is, pins of this size are what one WOULD expect to find in an IEM connector, not on a full size hadphone.

They make it that small so you've got a great sense of accomplishment when you manage to pull off the impossible by soldering reasonable wire to it. They are thinking of you, you just don't know it.

Actually the plastic is PEEK, a rather expensive, high-end plastic.

But yeah, it's just so small it's laughable.

Rather cold comfort, that.

what flabbergasts me is the fact that they cost $40/pair (unless someone can point me to a cheaper option)

the Cardas are a bone job at $30 as well. at least my AKG K271 has mini-XLRs and cost less than 1/2 of the Cardas.
