Okay looked around some more and found the AKG K550 interesting, how will they do for allround use?
Also is there anymore headphones around 200-250 preferably open.

Tomorrow the Audio Technia AD500/900/1000/2000 MKII's will be released. The previous generations were great but all of them lacked bass. Perhaps they addressed this on the new ones.

The 900 - 1000 might be in your budget.

Dunno when they will be available here tough and the AD1000 here costs about 300 so we'll see about that.

I would exceedingly recommend the HD598's. The mids are lively, detailed, and just plain wonderful. Vocals and string instruments sound amazing eg. the twangy guitar at 0:45 of Springsteen's Livin' In the Future sounds so real, it sent chills through me the first time I heard it! The treble is smooth but even more detailed than my HD280's. I haven't tried out the other phones, but the 598s are (IMHO) forward enough for rock, but these really shine with acoustic, especially Eric Clapton Unplugged (WOW).

598 and m50 for me as all-rounders. although...

598 - open, it leaks, low to zero isolation, headband plastic tend to crack (i hope senn fixed this already), long cable
m50 - closed, somewhat uncomfortable due to pads, nasty clamping force but depends on head size, long cable

headband crack issue has been fixed a long time ago (3+ years ago)

What music do you listen to and what will you be using these for?

The DT770 is closed and isolates well. It has a lot of bass and a lot of treble with weak mids. Very comfortable too. Soundstage is decent for a closed phone.

The HD598 is open and does not isolate. Compared to the DT770 it is bass shy but it's not lacking. It has much better mids and smoother treble. It's also very comfortable. Soundstage is much bigger then the DT770.

So really it comes down to what you will be using them for and what you want.

I don't recommend the M50 over these two.

X2
