HD580 just dropped to $125 on amazon.com

Got mine last week, and it sounds great. I haven't done much comparison with my other phones but I've liked everything I've listened to so far. Driving them with a GoVibe V3, which seems to work pretty good.

Can someone post pointers on how to dissect this puppy up, for changing cable and the grill? I'm about to place an order to Senn for both, but doesn't see any obvious way to open them up. THanks.

I just picked a pair of these up because.... well do I really require a reason?

I have recently come around to the idea that initial impressions are often regrettable so I wont say much. So far much preferable to the HD650 for my taste. However, I think my vmoda vibes shipped with a girthier cable

. I plan to replace it with the 650 cable soon. Maybe I will do the HD600 grills too.

I wonder if it is possible to buy just the headband from an HD650.

From what I can find, it's part 88594 and costs 93 EUR (~$122 USD). For the price of the HD580, the headband, the HD600 grilles and the HD650 cable, you could buy a pair of HD650. :<

Hi guys. I plan on purchasing a Little Dot II and am looking for some headphones to use with them. I'm mostly listening to mp3s with my SR-60s right now. If I start using the 580s, will it make my mp3s sound bad? Right now on SR-60s, I've really happy with what I hear, but wanted to get a real headphone amp. Thanks.

I just received my 580's, and they are burning-in right now -- and, my wallet is once again in the Intensive Care Unit...I'm hoping for a quick recovery....

But, they sure sound good....

Also, would these have good synergy with a Zhaolu D2C w/ discreet amp?

So tempted

A good complement to the 595 cans -- I have both, and the 580 (right out of the box, before burn-in) sounds slightly more bassy (but good bass), even though the 595 is good too -- but, the 595 lets you hear slightly more high-freq. details, but if too much highs gets tiring, switch to the 580's for a more "relaxed" though still detailed, sound.
Both cans are great in themselves.

Both are a steal for their price.

I see you've had experience with the 650's as well too. I did a little bit more reading, and come to the conclusion that the 650's bass really shines. Bass and soundstage were my primary motivators for checking out the 580's (been listening to a lot more EDM, Jungle/Drum and bass.) However, the 650's do cost a good $175 more. Would the 650's bass performance with such electronic genres justify the $175 over the 580's?

Given though that the 580's do provide a moderate improvement over the 595's in Drum and bass/etc., I think I'm ready to pull the trigger on them

I have the HD580, HD595, and HD650. IMO, the 650 is a different can of worms. The HD595 shares a similar dynamic range as the HD580.....it's just that the driver is angled toward the ear, so it seems brighter. So since the treble on the 580 seems softer, and can seem to have more bass. IMO, they actually share a similar bass impact. But the 580 definitely has more soundstage and can be good with less expensive systems.

If you spring for the HD650s, you also have to examine your system. The 650s screamed upgraditis to me, so I now have a $1.5K CD transport, $1k DAC, $1k headphone amp, and a $250 HP cable just for the HD650!!!! My ears say it's worth it.....so "life like" now. But a decent headphone amp and source will give you similar eargasms with the 580 or 595. If you're a big trip hop fan, then you do need to listen to the HD650's extra bass. On a begining system, the bass is a bit flabby....but it brings out an extra bass extension with Massive Attack that I never heard on the 595 or 580.

If the money is not a problem, the 650's are slightly better overall than the 580's, especially slightly more (nice) bass -- BUT, whether they are $175 better, depends on your money outlook. The 580's on sale so cheaply, kept haunting me, so I decide to give them a try, and was pleasantly surprised to find them so close to the 650's -- not exactly the same, but awful darn close. However, to me, the 580's are slightly better at mids/vocals than the 650's , since the bass is slightly heavier on them (650's). The mids/vocals are also good on the 650's, but the bass was more omnipresent on them. All the differences I find in the 580/650 are in the *slight* category -- they are there, though....
580smile.gif

But, I intend to keep my 595's too.

Most places allow returns -- if you can, get both and see if the 650 is $175 better than the 580 -- and send back the loser.
