Wow, even though I didn't like it's smoothness the few times i've heard it.. at that price I'm tempted to buy a HD580 so it can grow on me.

That's a steal...

Smart surfer ;-}

Sooo, does this fortunate turn of events make up your fence sitting position on their acquisition yet?

They may go to $99.99 before selling out!

I'm unfamiliar with 580s...how do they compare to 600s/650s?

I ordered 650s and thought the synergy was extremely poor with my equipment and returned them. Veil city. I heard both 600s and 650s at a meet and thought they sounded great--through the finest tube amps known to man.

But I really do enjoy my 595s, which are far easier to please. I do wish they had better bass though.

Where do 580s fit in Sennheiser's lineup?

Haven't heard the 580's, but supposedly they're identical to the HD600 except with plastic grilles

yeah, 580s and 600s share the same drivers (the 600s used to aparently be better balanced when they were the flagship Senn). So the only difference really is carbon fiber headband and metal grills with the 600s. Metal grills would give the 580s slightly tighter bass response and more open soundstage. Very slight though...but you can always spend $16 to get 600 grills (only takes several months to wait for Sennheiser to get them in stock).

Actually, IMO, the only Senn that has more bass is the HD650. The 595 is the brightest Senn, so I think some people percieve it as having less bass.

I had the 580 many years ago. I thought they sounded great. I just ordered a pair. I was going to go to ship dog for 140.00 shipped but this price of 124.99 with free shipping is just great. I just sold my 650 and would like to replace it with the 580.

Hey thanks kukrisna for the heads up.

Oops. I used the word "better bass" when I meant "MORE bass" in reference to 595s. I like them but I wish the bass were more similar to what the A900 offers, for instance. They have always sounded just a bit thin to me, even after buying an amp.

Anyway, if the 580s are that close to 600s I can see why that would be a steal.
