I've had HD565 Ovations for years now, and I cant remember if they were the top model at the time or if the HD600 existed at the same time? Anyone know?

I don't believe that the HD600's were out then, but the HD580's might have been.

AFAIK, your HD565 Ovations were very highly rated. How do you find them?

cheers
Peter

I really like them. The wire broke near one of the plugs so I've ordered an HD650 cable as a replacement. I've had them for nearly 7 years now.

The HD565 used to be the top model of their "normal" cans, HD595's grandpa so to speak. It must have come out in 1996, at least the (downloadable) manual says so, which isn't unlikely to have been close to the HD600's release. It's essentially a HD545 with metal mesh grilles, just like the HD600 essentially is a HD580 with metal grilles. AFAIR it's supposed to be darker sounding than the HD580, with a hint of metallic sound at times. I have the lesser HD535, and find the mids to be somewhat thin on the lower end and rolled off a bit too much on the high end, and the metallic sound is slightly audible, too. With a bit of EQ, things can be improved a bit, but my '535 is usually just sitting around in its box. Oh, and the cables (and contact springs) of that series (shared with the HD580) were fairly notorious, frequent contact problems.

Yep, the 565 is a little darker than the 580, the contacts are lousy (got a new set of capsules for free as I worked in a senn dealer at the time). However, unamped from my Sony Laptop (the best PC onboard I have heard - realtek HD audio) they are an easier drive than the 580 or 650. A little muddy, but my most flexible headphone

The major problem I have with the 565 is that they look so 1980's, though the 80's are back I hear! Also the fit is poor compared to a 580, the headband is a little loose for me

They look similar to the HD 595, so they should be very comfortable

I used to own these headphones, and it was more comfortable to wear them on my head than nothing at all. I really think they were the most comfortable headphones I've ever worn.

Finally, some HD565 love here, nice
smily_headphones1.gif

I had the HD565s for 7 years, they were my first serious headphones. But when I upgraded to the HD600s, I gave them to my father as a gift. The 600s were/are very nice, but I started to miss the 565's sound. So this spring I bought a pair from ebay. It was in almost new condition, very rarely used.

IMHO they're way better than the 595s (I had them for a few months, but didn't like them at all). The sound is similar to the 600s, a little less detail and clarity, but a little more upfront, more "biting" midrange. I actually prefer them to the HD600s when I listen to rock/metal music.

All in all, very good headphones, well worth the money they are going for on ebay, if you find a pair in good condition.

And no, they weren't flagship, they were introduced after the 580, if I remember correctly.

PS. Sorry for the bad english

What else is different from the picture I found... it looks like the text has changed location, but is there something else? Just curious, both pictures look like the same body design.

It uses the same type of connection and the same cable as the HD580/600

Look at the cable plugs, they're different... Also, the inside of the headband looks different on a "real" 565. I think this is not a real photo, but a mock-up picture, maybe from a pre-production unit. They ended up using this in the brochures and on the Senn website, even though it looks different than a real 565.
