My HD 280 Pro's are cracking too. But not where you mentioned. Its not repairable (need the part to be replaced) because its the part that bends and expands. I'm thinking of sending them to Sennheiser. It's been like that for over 2 months now.

Mine have been cracked for some time and doubt if they will actually break; it seems just that the plastic is not as flexible as the metal band. Therefore, don't try to fix it if it aint broke, as the cracks appear to be mainly a cosmetic flaw.

The 240 may be a tad hard to drive properly straight from your soundcard.I would take a serious look at the 7506.Basically its a revamped v6 thats just as easy to drive.Also note that the 240 is a very neutral hp,you may find it a little boring.If by chance they happen to have the Beyer dt250-80 hanging around make sure you audition them also.

To recap,between the 240 and 7506 the 7506 is the way to go.Good luck on your quest.
