HD 800 S Anniversary Edition

The reason there’s no problem with the S is because there’s no paint, it’s just black plastic. The gold paint will probably behave the same as the silver.

Perhaps, I am willing to take the risk though as I like the two tone paint 100x better than plain plastic. Colorware was able to paint the headphones without chipping issues so you'd think Senn could figure it out.

I’ve owned HD660/650/800 for years and never had any paint chipping.
The 660/650 aren't an issue.

But HD800, the silver paint flaking/scratching seems to be widespread. its basically impossible to find a used pair without little dots of missing paint here and there, unless the person was extremely careful and usually then you even see some.

Actually the 600 and 650 have been known to have exactly the same issue. Guess I’m just very careful because my HD800 had no chipping with regular use.

Really? never noticed that with used 600/650, maybe because they are darker colored?

True that it’s not as noticeable but if you follow those threads it’s a common complaint. I’m guessing Sennheiser left the bare black plastic on the 800S and 660S to avoid the problem. Can’t have chipping paint with no paint.

Looks nice but I am worried the paint job wont stand the test of time. My original HD800 were silver only a few years, now they are a lot blacker because the paint chipped off. Dissapointing for a 1000€+ headphone. I want the HD800s’ but the warranty is too short to cover it.

My sennheiser hd800s came with a warranty period of 10 years, something to do with orpheous club or something.

I have a chip on my HD800S and under the black plastic is.......drum roll please......White plastic.

You’re kidding! I’ve handled those so many times and was convinced there was no paint.

Not kidding, it really is white, well on my ones they are.
