HD 650 vs DT 880 vs ...

  Compressed? As I say, I've owned both (all three actually) and I wasn't aware of any compression, whatever that may mean in this context. Perhaps you can explain further.

 
The HD650/600 are often described as slow. They aren't, they just have a dynamic bass and a rather warm signature. You would probably call that punchy or snappy. The K701, HD800 and the DT880 on the other side are very clean sounding headphones, but they are also very compressed.
 
Do a side by side comparison with the ATH M50 or the Shure SRH 840. There's almost non compression in these phones.

Unfortunately you still haven't explained what you mean by 'compressed'. It's not a word generally used in connection with headphones.

Yeah, it's not mentioned often, but the difference is there. With compressed I mean the opposite of dynamic. If you're mixing a song and you're applying a compressor to - lets say - a bass guitar, you'll hear the compressor working with the Shures, not so with the K701 or the DT880.

I can certainly understand the opposite of dynamic, but it's not an effect I would have associated with the DT880, nor one I've ever heard mentioned. At this point I'd love to hear the opinion of another DT880 user on compression.

Got me confused too.  I have both the DT880 and the HD600.
 
I can't personally see how you'd describe either Senn as more "dynamic" than the DT880.  And I'm someone who probably prefers the HD600 to the Beyers by a smidge.
 
The DT880 are faster with less decay - therefore more of a dynamic snappy sound.  The Senns are slower with a more organic sound, slower decay (especially the HD650).
 
To me the DT880 are also more neutral, while the HD600 is still more natural (I haven't heard a headphone yet that ill match it's true-to-life timbre).
