Have You "(Radiohead's) In Rainbows"?: Impressions thread

So I've listened to it 5 times throughout the day, and my new Radiohead Ranking is as follows:

Kid A > OK Computer > The Bends = In Rainbows > Amnesiac > Hail To The Thief > Pablo Honey

Some of RH's best songs, but I'm not sure it works as well as a cohesive album as Kid A/OK Computer. Amnesiac and Hail had this problem too, but IR's songs are overall better. But whereas Hail seems to drag on, In Rainbows almost ends too soon. Still, it's really really great and I don't regret those $2.44 or whatever

160 is still in my I-can-tell-the-difference threshold, maybe FLAC or vinyl may boost my opinion

Just gotta say there are some tracks I absolutely love. 15 step is killer. Yorke is absolutely amazing and brilliant with his use of asymetrical rhythms and making them sound groovy. 15 step appears to be in some form of "5" meter, I would transcribe as 10-8, with 10 beats per measure and an eighth note getting the beat. Another way of perceiving it is 2 sets of 5 (1-2-3-4-5 1-2-3-4-5). With claps on the 1st duplet on 2-3-4-5, and then a clap on 1, 2+3+4, it really is quite remarkable. This is reminiscent of Kid A on "Morning Bells", with a similar 10-8 time signature, but grouped as 1-2-3 1-2-3 1-2 1-2, with accents on the 1 beats.

One more quote - Nude (Big Ideas) is really beautiful and sublime. The arrangement of the synthesized strings is very lush, reminds me of the Spector Wall of Sound. I remember hearing the B-Side and this song has really evolved from where it is now. I am also glad that with this song as well as others Yorke returns to the melodic writing we enjoyed in their previous works.

I'm listening to it for the second time. Personally I think we have a contender for album of the year here. Definitely better than HttT in my book, and I really liked HttT. I can't call any favorites yet, as on my first listen I didn't keep the song titles handy. Overall it's worth well beyond the $5 that I gave for it, and I will be more than happy to cough up full price for the CD when it finally comes out. No way am I spending more than $5 for 160kbps no matter how good the album is. My only real complaint aside from bitrate is I wish it was a bit longer.

I'm really liking this album, listening to it for the best part of the day. I love 15 Step and Faust Arp.

What would anyones favourite lyric be from the new album?

I completely agree with this description and wish I had said it myself. "Contained" is a bit of a stretch but I think it is because I have listened to The Bends and OKC many many times more - probably into the 1000s. Maybe once I have absorbed the IR album further.

I couldn't put into words what I thought about the rhythms on the album. You posted some really interesting infomation. 15 steps has some real swing to it.

Wow they REALLY like Radiohead, and really didn't like The Eraser (6.6). They even gave perfect scores to OK Computer and Kid A. Pitchfork always seems to be all over the place in their scores. My personal favorite is Lateralus with a rating of 1.9. What is up with that!

Anywho, since they gave HttT a 9.3, then I guess In Rainbows should be around 9.5. A bit better than their last, but not the classic that some of their previous albums are. At least not yet...

lol, I love Pitchfork, though I often strongly disagree with their lower ratings. P4k generally hates most anything prog (esp. Tool and The Mars Volta), except super indie prog like Battles. Some of their really low-score reviews are pretty awesome, though, even when you don't completely agree with their opinions.

Nah, I doubt they'd over-rate it that high. 9.5 is Turn On The Bright Lights/Since I Left You/Late Registration territory. Of course, I'd never rate HttT a 9.3, even though I do quite like it...

Haha. I like that (satire) IR cover. The title of the album struck me as bad but I didn't want to say anything. I have never ventured over to pitchfork but have heard the buzz, maybe it's time I wander over there.

so I'm not very 'with it' for this thread...but how do I download this one? I went to their site but didn't find an obvious (or even obfuscated) way to purchase it. I didn't pre-order like most seem to have done. What's up?
