have dt990... what's the next upgrade? (bought dx1000)

Just read my previous post, and I wasn't quite clear. So to clear things up:

The GS1000 is a far better headphone than the dt990, and if I had to choose, I'd pick the GS1000 any day. However what I realized when going from the GS1000 to dt990, was that while the GS1000 is fantastic in many ways, they lack some proper deep bass. The dt990 had that, which made me better able to live with switching back to the dt990.

The DX1000 however, has that proper deep bass, plus a lot of other qualities, which would make it very hard for me to go back to the dt990.

To sum it up, bass: DX1000 > dt990 > GS1000.

Oh, and as far as I'm aware, the GS1000 synergises pretty well with the Opera.

Interesting. For me, it was overall DX1000 > DT990 > GS1000

Not just in the bass.

I just didn't care for the Grado's spectral balance. I didn't find them to be any more resolving than the DT990, and I much prefer the 990's overall sound.

skylab, have u tried the hd650? if so where would u place those in that rating scheme. i know this is just your opinion, but considering that i seem to like the same type of sound sig as you, i think it would help.

Yeah, Skylab I also like the same kinda sound sig as you. How would you place the HD650 in there and also the regular v3 darths?
Thanks for your opinion Rob.

I have owned HD650's twice. I had a pair for a few months, and sold them. Then I bought a pair that had been headphiled, and sold those. I just don't really like them. I'd rather listen to DT990's than HD650's any day.

what was the reason for this? just the brighter nature of the dt990s? or was it something else?

Yes, I feel that the HD650's are dull sounding. They don't sound bad, don't get me wrong, they are good sounding cans, but I much prefer the livelier sound of the Beyer DT990/880/770.

Where does the regular V3 Darths fit in this equation then Skylab?

Deep Cup Darth Beyers>DX1000>D5000>DT990>GS1000

Thanks!

Probably between the DX1000 and D5000, depending on the music. The regular Darths have an elevated upper bass that works better with some music than others. I prefer this to a lack of bass by a wide margin, but sometimes it's too colored. The Deep Cups eliminate this issue, which is why that's all I have. Also, the Luke SkyBeyers don't have this problem.
