Has someone tried the LG HiFi Plus?

UPDATE: The above post is wrong, but i`ll leave it so people understand what i`m talking about, so here is the explanation:

It did sound bad and distorted because it wasn`t set up properly. I thought that everything will work after just installing the drivers, but turned out that i had to go into windows sound settings and enable all the kHZ rates from 32.0 up to 192.0kHZ. The same thing had to be done with the bit rate. The default setting was weirdly set at 16bit/32.000HZ, which is radio quality.

After enabling all the rates and setting the bitrate to 24bit/48.000Hz, the DAC sounds perfect. The sound signature is almost exactly the same as in the HTC10, but it sounds a little bit clearer and wider with a tad more separation. The difference is not big, but it`s there and considering the price i paid for it (35€ on ebay), i`m extremly happy now.

The Problem remains though that i have to set-up everything again after windows restarts. I will test the DAC with the phone soon and will update the post then. Hope everything will work automatically with the phone.

Hey peeps. I just ordered a LG G5 from the good ol' USA (B&H to be precise). Anyway, I live in Australia it should be here soon. Am I understanding correctly that if I buy the LG Hi-Fi Plus it might not work in my LG G5 as it comes from the USA and not EU? Huh? My model is this one; LG G5 RS988 32GB

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=invoice&A=details&Q=&sku=1239313&is=REG

I can get my hands on a LG Hi-Fi Plus for $90AUD, but I don't see the point if it won't play ball with my specific LG G5 unit. How silly...

recently i bought this device and run some test with my lg v10 , general sound is very similar but with more power , i can't compare to v10 right now becouse i need more time to test but in around 1 hours testing with diffrent headphones everything is better on hifi plus dac , in future i will direct comparison hifi plus dac vs v10
my main problem is i can not use with windows 10 on pc and dell venue 8 tablet , i try diffrent cable but didn't work , problem is windows driver and after searching on internet i can't find any solution to fix , but work flawlessly with android

Edit 1 : finally i find driver and work witout any issue on windows 10
can you please send me the driver for windows or tell me where to download it ? I already downloaded one from lg site but it did not work. I need the one you installed. my email cengizcdilek@gmail.com . thanks.

Would like the driver also if possible.
I'm a little bummed out, the LG Hi Fi Plus I bought won't work with the american LG G5 handset I bought, but I thought it would work with this particular variant/model but alas sadly no :'(
So now it really does have to be used purely as a USB DAC for Win 10...

Just a confirmation for anyone interested in buying this as you can get it very cheap now in second hand markets and it works with PC's and other Android phones and is small and light, DSD256 works when sent as Native and not DoP.

This is the cheapest DSD256 DAC I know of (when bought second hand), and unlike the SABAJ da2/SMSL Idea, there are no issues with buzzing or build quality, this is a product that used to sell for £150. DSD256 is a stunning format, it's the first format I'd describe as transparent and the realism makes you smile. Unfortunately content is difficult to come by, the 2L test bench samples are all converted from PCM which is what they record in, and with PCM to DSD being a lossy process, it's the worst of both worlds. NativeDSD has DSD256 which has never been touched by PCM, they have some free samples that you can download when you register.

I had seen on a few blog posts attempts to get DSD256 working in Jriver and Audirvana Plus, I can't comment on that, but with Foobar, I needed to use DSDTransoder to convert the DoP output to Native. If I had known that this DAC was DSD256 capable, I would have bought one long time ago. AFAIK there are no DSD512 ADC's and I cannot imagine it sounding any better, and space wise, DSD256 is monster format as it is with or without lossless compression.

hi
To get a much better sound from this device ... Remove the ceramic power supply and use the1mf Wima mkp Film Capacitor (modern wima) ... You will hear hundreds of times more sounding the price of this unit. Especially through native 256 USB computer.

Bypass power supply is very important ... Ceramic capacitors produce additional noise ...(piso noise)... best capacitor for this location wima mkp film cap ...

With this upgrade you will receive hundreds of money on your money ... Remove the ceramic capacitor in the USB 5V direction and place this capacitor ...
sound stage for 32bit and 384Khz ...!!!

thanks .afshin

There are cheap dacs like the hifime which sounds better than this for the same price. Sticking a cap, screws up the aesthetics and portability. Moreover it only becomes a second device, as its impossible to sell out something like this at the instance of upgrade.

But, the sound part is more important!

I've been trying my HiFi plus with my Galaxy Note 8, and also tested on an S8.

When connected with a USB-C to USB-C cable, the sound from the HiFi plus is distorted and noisy. It's not too noticeable during loud music at high volumes, but when music is fairly quiet, it's very poor.

Has anyone experienced this on the HiFi plus with an S8 or other Android phone?

It works brilliantly when attached to an LG G5 or a laptop via USB, just distorting on Galaxy Note / S8.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

This looks like a cool mod, although it's not aesthetically pleasing, with the hifi plus being so cheap on second hand markets now, it'd be cool to try it on a second device you wouldn't mind messing up. I am concerned about drilling through plastic though as it's not very environmental to getting fragments of plastic everywhere.

I don't know where you live, but I am curious to take a listen although I don't think it'll make much of a difference especially for the effort.

I don't think lowering the noise floor of the electronics will improve DSD256 or 384khz PCM as it's not the reason they sound better, rather for PCM you can forgo the brickwall filter when sampling at those sample ratings and reconstructing is much gentler, for DSD256, the quanization noise for DSD is shifted very far from the audio spectrum to the point where it's not much of a concern.

Is this still the case when you use USBapp or Hibymusic with their dedicated drivers? I haven't had this problem yet but it could the phone attempting to charge the device? Or it could be the internal resampling of the samsung, I don't have a device myself, I don't know if you'd be better turning the UHQ upscaler for audio on or off, if either one removes the distortions, then I'd recommend keeping it as your audio is being resampled in android anyway.

Hi
This device (( Nautive DSD))is on the computer if you use ASIO driver ... but on Mobile Dap DSD ... I use without problems samsung J5 prime ... for use in DOP mode you need HF player and Unlocked HF softwear.
Before the update, there was not a good sound ... and it was a miserable ...Especially with mobile ...
After installing the WIMA capacitor and removing the ceramic capacitor from the feed, the result is amazing ...

Thanks for the thoughts. I tried Hibymusic & USB Audio Player Pro, and unfortunately the result was the same. The UHQ and other Samsung quality settings are greyed out when using the Hifi Plus, and only work with the built in audio jack.

Perhaps the phones aren't giving the unit sufficient power causing artifacts... seems strange. I'll keep playing, and see if I can try adding in external power somehow to see if that helps. Thanks again!
