not really a fan, but I have some stuff by Con Dom and Whitehouse. I can stand it every now and then, but it just seems too abstract most of the time.

I have the first Boris record. It is my first experience with noise music, at least outside of terrible opening bands at concerts, and surprisingly (at least to myself) I like it a lot. I have been meaning to check out Merzbow next but am still trying to figure out the best record of his to start with.

How do you pronounce Merzbow by the way? Like mermaid and bow and arrow?

I suppose some of the drone I like borders on noise, as does some stuff from Acid Mothers Temple.

Like mermaid and take a bow. Don't forget the z, too.

Speaking of which, Merzbow has some gems in his expansive discography, though many of which I have a hard time considering them as "harsh".

If you like noise and Boredoms who are tame compared to Merzbow; check out Hanatarash. It's pretty noisy. eye from Boredoms earlier group.

Fu****susha is pretty sweet too. More noise rock then pure noise. And The Psychic Paramount if your into high energy freak outs.

Merzbow is too much for me most of the time. In the right mood, it can be mind altering.

I've listened to a little Merzbow and liked it a lot. My favorite so far is 1930, which I found on Last.fm. I'm looking for a good album that I can get with my Emusic acount. What are some other standout Merzbow albums?

Any love for Oval (Markus Popp)? I've really been digging the album Ovalcommers. It's noisy glitch music, not as harsh as Merzbow, but this isn't a pissing contest about who's the noisiest, after all. Anyway I think this album is really interesting; it uses a broad range of timbres and unidentifiable noises, and I really like his rhythmic conception.

Too bad, as far as I can tell Popp isn't releasing music anymore. I'd welcome suggestions for other music that might ring some of the same bells.
