GUSTARD DAC-R26 Balanced Decoder R2R+1Bit Dual Native Decoding Music Bridge

Apologies for the bad attitude, I've just tried the UTM software that Rod suggested, and I really have to admit, I'm not very computer literate anymore. It was not that simple for an every day fool like myself to navigate, they tell you to go to such and such (where is it?) then download such and such (huh?) then come back and run so and so......none of the directions are in plain English or explain to dummies where to find any of these extra bits and pieces, it's very cryptic. I've been a Mac user for too long, every time I dip into Windows stuff for even a minute, I want to tear my hair out. Go ahead and flame away Windows guys!

😆 It is a bit ridiculous eh!

And cheers @Forgisound for finding this out.
Indeed! With enough of us writing to Gustard with solid feedback it gives them valuable consumer info. I think they actually are listening and realize how many potential buyers are likely to find a thread like this to help in their decision making. I did just that back in August and so did many others here who are now regular participants. I can only imagine how many non-registered eyes visit!
I know some of the issues we’ve had are frustrating, but I really think they’re listening and trying to improve however they can. Could be they’ve had more success than anticipated and are playing catch up now. Not the first time a product wasn’t 100% polished before release deadline hit!

It was a surprise even for me that they (Gustard) are responding positively.

Past experiences with Chinese support is either (a) they leave you to dust (b) they treat you as you know nothing or (c) lost in translation.

Here's the latest reply from Mr Zhang at Gustard, maybe there's some helpful info for someone. He's been very responsive and sincerely trying to help solve some issues. I agree with @m-i-c-k-e-y, I didn't expect such professionalism, based on past experience. They've got a good thing going with their last two DAC releases, I imagine the front end of the business is struggling to keep up with the output of (most likely) a small, very skilled team of engineer(s). That's my fantasy anyway!

hi Bryan

thank you very much for your reply

It is personal behavior for users to hack into the system to add functions. If we do not act, no third party will care about this matter. (I had told him about @NoaHimesaka hacking into the R26 and getting Tidal Connect to work!)

But the functions we officially added are different. Yay.

We found that Qobuz does not yet have its own web push protocol. :sob:
Tidal and Spotify already have their own network push agreement.
Please correct me if my understanding is wrong.

Regarding system updates, systems are not always updated frequently.
Once you discover a successful path, it is recommended to repeatedly rely on it.
If it's possible. Please forgive this slightly troublesome behavior. Yikes.
You can still update after all.
Because we can improve, but maybe, maybe in the finished product, the improvement is limited. (R26 v2 anyone?)

Did you encounter an error while burning files?
The xxx.img.gz file is a whole, you don't need to decompress it.
You need to use the xxx.img.gz file directly to be opened by the application.
In addition, it is also recommended to use the following software for image burning.

https://www.balena.io/etcher/

They are all operating system platforms
When R26 type-C is connected to win PC or MAC, what actually happens is that an SD card reader is connected to the computer.
The operation of system firmware update is actually to burn xxx.img.gz into the card
Thank you for your understanding

We've had multiple emails back and forth. We feel your passion
It's not that we are lazy and don't want to do something. Rather, our software team is a growing team.

Best regards

If I understand correctly what Mr Zhang says, it's not difficult at all to upgrade the software of the R26 with a Mac.
It's exactly the same as flashing a micro SD card with Balena Etcher for a RPI.

If you wouldn't mind either laying out that process here or in a PM, I'd really appreciate it Dandoudou. I tried to use Balena Etcher several weeks ago and had no success. Somehow I stumbled and fumbled my way into previous updates, but now so far no luck.

Interesting that he said nothing about improving the firmware upgrade process as they had indicated to me. Maybe the difference between an owner and a prospective owner.

I'll do better.
Tomorrow, I'll try to upgrade the streamer of my R26 from its actual v1.31 to v1.4 with my Mac, and Balena Ethecher.
I'll take screenshots. If the upgrade works, I'll post them on this thread with full instructions.

EDIT
I only need the files of the latest version of the software for the streamer.
Does anyone have them?

Here's the latest 1v4, as sent from Gustard yesterday, both the 5.50 driver and the Gustarender files are there:

You can download the 1v4 version here, right in the middle of the row

https://download.shenzhenaudio.com/#GUSTARD_R26/1

Please be sure to unplug the power cord of the R26 before starting the update operation of the streamer

Happy Wednesday, (Post your setups day)

I am offender #1 where I often obsess over the technical details vs listening to the music. Right now I am just going to listen to the music and enjoy. I wish the same for all of you even if it is just for a few moments. (BTW, this is not in response to any individual or any posting) just a reminder to stop and listen to the music when you can.

Cheers!!
