Try another USB device. A PC/Laptop, Android Smartphone or another IOS device.

Hi guys, I'm wondering if I could connect my PC to R26 through my local network and just play my pc's system sound to R26, basically functioning the same way as if I'm using a USB connection? Currently, my PC can detect R26 on my local network but does not recognize it as a sound device for play back.

Install LMS as a server on the PC

Under the search bar type "Services" and choose "Services" App.
In "Services" consoole, be sure "Wiindows Media Player Network Sharing Service" is enabled
If NOT, double click, change startup type too "Automatic", Start service, Hit Apply

This whole LAN thing is crazy to me. I'm sitting at my desk, in front of my computer where my FLAC files are, but instead of plugging a cable from my computer to the DAC, I have to send the files to my router over wifi and then run a cable from there to my computer and somehow that's less lossy than just using USB? Why can't they just make a USB port that works as well as an Ethernet cable? Doesn't using WiFi introduce lag due to the distance and extra processing? Does anyone use the R26 as a PC DAC for other things than music, I play games and watch videos as well, would I just use the USB for those purposes and switch inputs?
My original plan was to use PC -> USB -> DAC. However, after reading a lot about which DAC and USB implementation to get, I found out that USB, while convenient, isn't a good way to transfer audio. (Noise from the computer into the DAC is the problem.) So, instead of spending a lot of money on a "magic" USB bridge, I got the R26 with its excellent internal renderer/streamer, and a relatively cheap LAN to fiber conversion kit. If you don't care about getting the very best sound from your DAC, then by all means just use USB. It will certainly get the job done.

As SpursForEver suggests, installing and using LMS (formerly called Logitech Media Server) will make it work - excellently and easily. I prefer LMS as music server since there are no glitches, it has an EQ plugin option and it's even free.

Now called Lyrion Music Server. See https://forums.slimdevices.com/
Go for the stable version 8.5.2

Ok. I'm listening to two different LAN cables. It is crazy how different they sound. Something the Objectivists would say is impossible?

I have a cheap generic 2 meter Cat6 cable from the laptop to the mesh router and another from the router to the R26. And I'm swapping a Cable Matters 1 meter Cat8 cable from the router to the DAC.

The sound is very different. The Cat8 cable is definitely warmer, fuller and more musical. "More meat on the bone". Greater ease.
The Cat6 cable is leaner. Which allows slightly more empty space and is just a bit deeper in the stage with more space between layers that is the R26's strong attribute. The Cat8 is slightly closer and denser. The Cat6 is blacker but slightly edgier.

I am using a laser sharp system with Silver cables into HiFiMan HE1000 SE from a maxed Burson Soloist GT and 768/23 HQ Player into the R26. So, will stay with the meatier musical ease of the Cat8 cable and will buy another to complete the set.
