GUSTARD DAC-R26 Balanced Decoder R2R+1Bit Dual Native Decoding Music Bridge

Is this a guess or a real thing? Either way I'm sure you're right it's only a matter of time before Gustard or someone else ups the ante. But there can be some pretty straightforward mods like cap swaps that don't cost all that much. To be honest though I kind of agree, they seem to have used good spec parts all throughout the R26, as opposed to my Chinese tube amp, in which I've replaced every cap, resistor, and pretty much all the wire, not to mention speaker taps and input jacks (oh yeah and the output transformers).
One thing I have considered is swapping out the RCAs and possibly the XLR jacks, which might not give a great ROI but that won't stop me.

:beerchug:
Mods you describe like replacing caps etc are well beyond my capabilities. Hence my mild intrigue in what a pro-modder might do or propose for the R26.

From the Aliexpress cables (incl tweaks) thread incl my own experience with the effect of grounding & shielding here's a few straightorward things I might try when I get around to it: Fo.Q vibration damping material on interior circuit boards and/or componentry like transformers, on caps, maybe even the oscillators; copper foil with conductive adhesive on both sides of the divider wall to the power supply section
(and maybe over the top of that section to create a tighter faraday cage) to increase shielding; potentially inserting another shielding divider wall grounded to the chassis between the clock section and the ladder / analogue stage section. And maybe changing the IEC inlet like you did. But my first priority is my new Nilai amp with some obvious upgrades (internal cables, shielding, vibration damping, connectors) and much more interior space in which to play.

Being a bit crazy here about mods :spy:, If you want mods...do the SAND MOD!

We've been discussing this on the Singxer SU-6 thread years back. Sand takes away the mico vibrations

I PERSONALLY HAVEN'T TRIED THIS, SO YOUR RISK. But the poster have done it more than twice and have excellent results.

To do the Sand MOD (Picture is a Singxer SU-6):

1. You first open the component, and cover the opening loosely with a big piece of transparent kitchen wrapping foil.

2. Then you take about a cup or 2 of yellow quartz sand and start filling the device. The foil will since down.
11285512.jpg

3. After the component is filled, you fold the outer ends of the foil to the middle of the equipment, so they overlap.

11285515.jpg

4. The component has to be filled all the way. Then close the R26 and listen and enjoy.

Poster say, there is no ventilation in the component, and the sand transports heat good enough to not cause any problems.

For those running USB let me save you a lot of time and potentially money throwing various components at the R26.

Let me start off by saying that I've tried it all with the R26 Clocks, DDC, Ethernet, etc.. and to-date the biggest upgrade I've made has been an Audioquest Diamond USB. I know, I know high-end cable. Before anyone slips into a triggered fit of rage just hear me out.

I have quite a bit of experience with both high-end and boutique cables. I've owned various including Tubulus, Curious Cables, Wireworld, etc..

The Audioquest DBS (Dielectric-Bias System) with Radio Frequency Trap has done more to enhance the R26 Sound Quality than any other upgrade. I know cables are a contentious topic however I ignore the noise and trust my ears. If it's snake oil I won't hear anything. This is an expensive cable, full stop. I purchased this on Amazon so I have 30 days with it but after the first track I was already convinced that this thing is never leaving my system. If you're looking for that last 5% and are willing to pay for it, I cannot recommend the cable highly enough as a companion to the R26.

Deeper, darker background, bass / low frequencies are more articulate with an increase in texture and control. Higher frequencies often found in things like cymbals aren't piercing. Soundstage width and depth has increased. Micro detail is evident across all of my usual test tracks. This could simply be because of reduced noise as opposed to actually increasing detail but either way there's no missing it. Timbre is also more natural. I've listened to these test tracks hundreds of times like many others and their libraries and I have to use the cliche "I'm hearing things I've never heard before" audiophile slogan.

The Diamond doesn't need any break-in so right out of the box what you hear will be the cable at it's best. I was blown away after the first track.

Do you have any alternative cables that come close to the Diamond at a less exorbitant price?

I have no doubt that it is not good, but the price hurts a bit.😇

Do you have a source for audiophile sand?🤣

Big thanks to the member who released the Tidal Connect -Roon bridge firmware.

It's working fantastic, unlike Roon which always skipped tracks.
Tried for many days to solve this issue and turned my entire network upside down. (65 permanently connected devices in the network)
Nothing worked. (it previously was working)

Having non-skipping tracks now is a big release and feels like a cool rain after a hot summer day.
Thanks!
+1 here. Many thanks to the person that put in the time and effort. Super stable and just a joy to use Tidal ios app vs various upnp ones. Although the Jplay app is very good, the R26 would often bog down and become unresponsive for some time kicking error sending action to renderer. Also no Daily Discovery and not as good for new music exploration. I’m overjoyed with the Tidal firmware.
