The base system firmware, and the renderer firmware, are completely separate files, and procedures to upgrade, using different software.

system firmware =/= renderer firmware

I literally just learned that the system firmware exists today.
Again, the only place I've found a download for it is @Super Sonico post. He also has a jpeg image hosted for instructions.

If the date on display has not changed, the system firmware has not been updated.
Yes, you can update the renderer firmware to V1.3 (the latest) without updating the system firmware.
FWIW, per comzee's post, there is system and renderer firmware.

The push the button power it on to display date displays the system firmware. I don't know of any way for the R26 to display the renderer firmware version. Renderer firmware does show up in Roon as 'Gustarender-1v3' so I am guessing it may show up like that in other software used.

When flashing renderer firmware, the only way the R26 has showed up in the USB Imager flashing software for me is to have the DAC shut off in rear. Then it shows up as a 29.4GB storage device. If the R26 is in standby, no device is listed in the USBImager. That is via USB type C cable.

Oh no... Amazon sent me the wrong fiber optic cable! I ordered an LC to LC cable and they sent an SC to SC. Doh!
Guess the fiber experiment will have to wait until next week at the earliest. Kinda disappointed.
Bummer,.. you'll in for a treat.

Update on my FMC:
Changed my sfc module from Single mode to MultiMode. My network engineer friend told me I am over spec'd. This type of connection are usually used on 20km lengths. Signal would be too powerful and I should use an attenuator to cut down the signal. Well the MultiMode module works too! Later my Datacenter friend told me they've been using the Single Mode FC as patch for years and never had encountered problems... Well I guess either works..

You can turn the R26 on any time after the flash is complete, ie after you've unplugged, as if all you were going to do is turn it on and listen to some tunes, with the addition of holding the selector button down at the same time as Alenotta said. The FW date will show on the screen.
The issue I'm having is after the R26 is flashed, nothing else happens. The firmware does not install. I checked the firmware and its still the one from 06-11-22.

Which file (name of it/link) have you used to flash?

Sorry double post... some network issues...

This is renderer SW not DAC! You need to flash this one: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1QDkOIdYV1nmJP5PyUDQACuT17MRP9CV0/view?usp=sharing
from my drive or look for it somewhere on web. When you flash this one, date on display will change...
Thanks for this. The instructions on this seem even more vague. So from my understanding once I find USB DAC I click the top left corner button that says "click here". Wait until its done updating. Disconnect the USB C. Then turn the power back on at the back?

Power off R26 with button on back, connect to computer, can computer detect now disk drive? When not use other cable, I've problem with Samsung USB-C cable that didn't work and I've to use another. I've followed instructions... I think I've found solution for music playback stuttering with LAN input... I'll recheck today and when it works again I'll post tomorrow...
