This one looks quite interesting. It could be a great desktop center except it's quite big so that's a little turn off for me

Your conclusion seems to me pretty correct (i never deal with Sabre, so i am talking just about Asahi)

That seems to be the case with most AKM dacs Ive tried

the chip should not be needed but the other analog components maybe.You know the dac is not  a chip only.

The price on Taobao seems to be $684, excluding shipping. But it says sales are temporarily limited to China only, international will have to wait.

But I know ordering that way isn't easy for those of us in the West, so was just pointing out there was an eBay seller in case someone was looking for that.
