In general, I'll go for someone able to pull the feeling out in the subtleties of their voice over great technical ability.

Freddie takes the prize, no question. Good technical skill, good writer, great range of style, charismatic and passionate.

Right behind him though, on the rough edges of his cape, are Ian Anderson (who has his own capes, too!) and Eric Burdon. Then maybe Ian Gillan and Dio...

I don't know if I'd put Ozzy up there or not. In terms of importance, he's right up there, though. It took quite a string of events to get him as the front for the band, but no one else would have fit. I've just today been rockin' out to Paranoid, and for all of his being a learned singer, nobody else could make that happen. He ain't a good singer on one hand, but then you get to Hand of Doom, and
