Great news for rooted android users--Viper4Android

You can use V4A with lollipop. I'm using it without issue.

Another add on I'm using with it is Dolby. Combined with V4A, sounds extremely good.

Couldn't get it to work on my Sprint Galaxy S4 (Lollipop 5.0.1).  Kernel wouldn't go permissive no matter what the SELinux setting so the V4A drivers would not install (driver install loop).  Even tried some init'd scripts and modifying some system files.  Last ditch effort was to try Cyanogenmod 12.1 which resulted in a loss of cellular service.  Ended up wiping everything and doing a factory reset.  Anyway, I'm envious of folks that can get it to work.  Thought about buying a cheapo cell phone off Amazon just for V4A.  Think I'll just stick with the Android Sabre DAC since it works and I like it about as well.

Try xda developers. If you still have an issue, drop me a PM, I'll try to help you.
thanks brother..I don't think it's the problem with lollipop per say. I think it's got to do with Samsung devices.I've read some people with lollipop on their nexus 5 I believe with lollipop has it working. It works great on my sony z with kit kat..there is a message telling me there is an update. .no way am I updating lol anyways hopefully the developers will come out with some kind of update for it.fingers crossed.

I have it on my note 4 with lollipop. No issues. Easiest way is to flash a ROM with it baked in already. I had it on my stock rom after I rooted and had no issues. It can be a bit tricky as I've had issues in the past with it on my note 2. I did get it to work on it eventually. Either way if you are happy now that's all that matters.

If you want to give it a try again let me know. Or post on xda, they are usually very helpful. I could even send you a backed up version of it on lollipop that you can restore with titanium. That's how I originally was able to make it work on my old note 2.

Np bro, let us know which one you go with and how much you love V4A. You know, new Nexus is due out before the end of the year. They probably have 2 models being released, LG is making one and Huawei is making a larger one.

I recently added Dolby to my little arsenal and it's a nice little improvement. For anyone interested here is a link: (works well with V4A)

I donno, daisy-chaining several apps that **** around with your audio seems a little bit off to me, especially if you dont know exactly what they do with your audio and how they integrate with android. V4A all for itself is good but since i have abso****inglutely no idea what it does, i'd rather leave it alone.

Why would i need/want anything else than V4A?

You're right, nothing beats the v4a.
But for those v4a doesn't work they could very well try that.
And for those who want to use Dolby atmos they could very well download the convolver zip file and open it in v4a convolver settings. Good for movies.

While I have failed to make v4a work with my ibasso I have since no use of it. This little ibasso came as a revelation to me. Just amazed how it even makes a 10$ iem sound really good and with ie8 it's very good too

This post is redirected from the $999 vs $99 challenge tour.

Here are the cheapo phones that I think can be easily obtained from the market for which I have created premium Digital Acoustic Correction impulse responses:
JVC FX12 (done)
Philips SHE8000 / 8005 (done)
Philips SHE3590 (update pending)

List will be expanded depending on people's interest level.

I'm very interested in this. Is this supposed to be what viper calls VIPER-DDC ?
I can suppose it "corrects" the natural frequency peaks of a phone with a measured spectrum.

If that's the case can you suggest something "like" or "near" the Xiaomi Pistons (I have the 1 and 3 version). I also have the MH1 (which is my all time favorite) and some other budget IEMs but can't find any of them in the list.

Thanks in advance,

Stumbled across this app thanks to this post
http://www.head-fi.org/t/671936/how-i-turned-a-bass-iem-into-a-balanced-clearer-iem

In which Viper4Android is mentioned almost as an afterthought, with a vague explanation of it making things sound "clearer".  The description given made it sound like a gimmick, but upon further exploration...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191223

I was floored by what the app promised to do--and on testing it out I find that it pretty much delivers everything it promised and more!
eek.gif

1. It is a system sound processing module--intercepts all system sounds (apart from phone calls).  I confirmed this works with, e.g. Poweramp and KKBOX (streaming music service)
2. It is NOT just like a wrapper for MusicFX, unlike dozens of wannabe system DSP apps.  A brief read of the feature list should convince you of that.  And I haven't tried them all, but I can certainly confirm that there is a working 10 band EQ (unlike the 5 band of MusicFX).
3. Most importantly, there is a Convolver function, which lets you take a recording of almost any sound processing effect as an impulse response (there are dozens of stock effects but I think it's better for you to record effects yourself) and use it on your phone.

People have been using this feature to record the various bass boost, EQ and spatialization effects of different players and devices (the spatialization effects probably with limited success, since the convolver doesn't yet support cross-channel processing), but as seen in this post
http://www.head-fi.org/t/671936/how-i-turned-a-bass-iem-into-a-balanced-clearer-iem#post_9609650
and the OP's response following it, I think the greatest potential of this feature is headphone compensation EQ a la Accudio.  You can take the headphone measurements of various headphones from various sites like goldenears, take their frequency response relative to the site's target curve, and apply the inverse EQ with arbitrary level of precision using your EQ of choice (I choose Electri-Q), tweak the resulting curve to taste (e.g. I apply a subbass boost below 100Hz to compensate for the loss of bass in noisy environments), record an impulse response with this EQ, and put the result into Viper4Android and your phone will be able to play music through the same precision crafted corrective EQ that you have on your computer.

Edit:  I have my own thread dedicated to these headphone compensation EQs now:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2372750

Hey Joe
Finally getting myself to going to use it after been forgetting how the app's called and not having time. I have two headphones that have presets on your post on xda, which seems nice and not too hard: load and play I guess. Another headphone I have (Havi B3) has some frequency response curves on headroom.com, how hard is it and how much time does it take to get an EQ preset out of such a curve, and is there any possibility to use viper when you dont have any FR curve nor gear to measure it? I have some cheap KZ earphones that could benefit from handy EQ'ing.
