Hello I recently got into listening with headphone and I'm pretty much a noob at this. Anyways after lots of reading through forums I purchased the Grado SR80i. I am using it with and iPod without an amp. I like how it sounds right now but I got a great deal on the Grado SR225 and Grado SR325i for $130 and $180 brand new and was wondering if it was worth the upgrade. Since I have no way of testing these, I need your help. How much better are the SR225 and SR325i over the SR80 without any amp for playing mp3s on the iPod?

i say go for the SR325i. the 225 is nice but the 325i is much better. the SR325i was my 2nd grado headphone and i still use it frequently. $180 is a pretty sweet deal. it will sound decent out of an ipod, but will definitely sound waay better with a dedicated amp and more importantly a better source. you can always do that later as you upgrade.

I have had all of the Grados except the RS-1s and I have had the 325s two times waited to get the 225s the very last and would haved saved myself alot by getting the 225s first the onlys one in the end i would keep. I really like them with the flat pads if you take your time and match them with a good amp they sound very nice.

+1 on the SR-325i.
Cause $180 seems like a sweet deal, as its successor the SR-325is sell for $295.

I started with the SR80 as well. They got me on the grado sound and I upgraded to the SR325i. Before ordering them I was a bit afraid because of what some people say about their tremble extension. But I did not regret buying them. I find them a great pair of headphones.... They do so much, so much better than the SR80... so I would recommend them as well...

I also agree on the 3251i. I find it a bit more open than the 225 and more comfortable. The 325is is likely my next set of cans.

For now id get whatever is cheapest to hold me over until I save enough for the woody's IE RS2-1.

That just me though but seriously get the 225i it's a solid headphone and it should kill that upgrade bug dead on its track's for a good while.

I think you'll be happy with either one. Both will be a substantial upgrade over the SR80i (at least in my opinion). I would personally go for the SR325i (that's what I went with), but I would have been completely contempt with an SR225. Those are some great deals by the way.

Didn't they also improve the drivers on the 325is?
