Grado RS1e matters (and impressions)

The original PS500 is the polar opposite to the RS2e. Now I didn't own the PS500e and RS2e at the same time like I did with the original PS500 so from memory I would say the "e" series have more in common with each other than they differ (the land of settle differences). The PS500e had more bass where the RS2e has less but tighter and more controlled. Also with the all mahogany cups of the RS2e that produces this tone that sounds so good and natural; I don't know, it's hard to explain. Sorry I can't be much help on this, maybe someone else has had the chance to compare them directly.

Well I only ask because I'm thinking about getting another pair of Grados soon. I got the GH-1 this week and I've tried out the RS1i. I'm chasing the sound of the PS1000s, but their price tag is out of range at the moment. I'm shopping for opinions around here because they're folks who've said the GH-1 with the G-cush is very comparable, as is the PS500 with the G-cush. From what you mentioned on the RS2e, I'm surprised to hear it's not at all like the GH-1. To my ears, the bass is clear and controlled but it is not tight or wound or rumble-y and bloated. I'm working on posting my impressions of them, so there will be more later. ;)

Are you using the GH-1 w(G) cushions?
If so, its not that their going to sound like the PS1K/e, but they sure are right up there with them in price/performance ratio but a different presentation. A PS1K/e is a PS1Ke…the hybrid design will give a different presentation than the Maple, but like I said, the GH-1 w(G) cushions IMO are excellent!

Yes I've tried the G-cush. I just posted my first impressions in the Fan Club thread. There are a few guys on here that said that the GH-1 w/G comes closer to the sound presentation of the PS1k than any other headphone in the current Grado lineup.

  FWIW, I didn't like the RS2i's.
I found they had a sizzling high end that was all
out of balance with their anemic bass.

Anaemic (UK spelling) bass is not for me... thanks for the tip.

Guilty as charged.

G-cush. I bought a pair in my early RS1F days, and then put them on my PS500 cans, but have reverted to the L cush on both. On these models it seems to me that the sound becomes less Grado with the G cush. Looking forward to owning one of the models where the G comes as standard... and how.

''reverted'' that's a new word for me. I'm assuming that it means ''going back to....''

The GS and PS are great headphones, but in my opinion, the GH-1 could very well have came with the G-cush. That being said, the GH-1/G, gets you into GS1k, and PS1k territory for significantly less money.

Just saying.

That's very interesting... the GH-1 doesn't exist on the Grado UK website, but I'm sure that I could get one from the USA if I wanted one. I'll think about it. Unfortunately, I have spent a lot on hifi recently...

My Larousse bilingue makes it clear that 'revert' translates a little effortfully into French, but you understand it perfectly. Il s'agit d'un retour à la case départ... Thank you so much for your help.

Actually, there are a couple of sources for the GH-1 in the UK (the power of Google). I was wrong to assume that if the official distributors didn't have it, no one would. Hummm... and I have this pair of G-cushs that I'm not using. Hummm...

On the official U.K. Official Grado site is it under "Limited Edition" like it is on the U.S. Official Grado site?

No, but other dealers have it. It's quite expensive over here... like everything else. £649.99. Nearly $930.

I was asking because I couldn't find it on Grado Labs site here until I looked under "Limited Editions".
That is expensive compared to our price, but that is less than the GS1Ke cost here. I think its a great price/performance ratio instead of the GS1Ke which would cost you even more over there…and I also prefer the GH-1 to the GS1K/i/e.

Does it have decent bass... unlike the GS1000e I tried at the London Canjam?
