Hi Everyone,

I am working on my next custom Grado build, and thought it might be nice to gather all of the Grado headband alternatives out there in a single thread (mods, please let me know if this needs to move to the DIY forum, or somewhere like that). So without further ado, I have the following on file:

I haven't tested this yet, but apparently the Sony MDR7506 headband works (can anyone confirm this?):

I have also seen the headband from the Sony MDR7502 used:

Any others secretly bookmarked in anyone's browsers out there?

I have two headbands sitting here awaiting there cups which are being made as we speak.
I'll put some pics up later but they only cost me £3.00 each as they were faulty headphones.

Thanks Joe...that's the 7502 headband...I wonder if the 7506 has the same dimensions....I am sure it does. Anyway, keep the suggestions coming!

Turbulent Labs has a lot of nice products for a Grado build, including a very nice headband that looks close to stock, but is much more heavily padded. Since the JMoney headbands stopped being produced these have basically been the go-to for Grado modders. Here's a link to their Onyx Manta, but they also have a brown version called the Saddle Manta, and a cheaper, thinner black one called the Black Manta.

It depends really. The plastic Grados aren't that heavy, so the headband was never a problem for me when I had my SR80i. Also with such a cheap headphone I wouldn't buy such an expensive headband. I would only recommend it if you see yourself going all the way with modding them with Magnum drivers and wood cups or if you just can't stand the stock headband.

I despised the thin stock headband on 80i which hurt my head, so I bought the Turbulent Labs one. It's not ideal either, but much better. Maybe I'm simply used to the comfort of AKG's suspension system.
