Panasonic announced today that it is discontinuing the Technics turntable brand.   I know most readers of this site prefer belt drive, but I have had decades of fond memories with this direct drive beast.  And think of all the nightclubs at which we have all danced and partied, thanks to Technics, the favored table of DJs everywhere.

Goodbye, Technics.  We hardly knew ya.

I'm still in denial that they ended it.  I wasn't nearly as bothered as when Sony announced they were going to discontinue the walkman.

Now to see to go out and buy some before prices start increasing in the grey market.

Wait a second, are they discontinuing the brand and rebranding the turntables as Panasonic, or are they discontinuing the turntables too?

A shame if they discontinue the decks. If so, maybe I'll have to pick up a new one and mothball it for awhile. A NIB one might be worth a few dollars down the road.

. I'll get my friend in Yokohama put some more SL-1200 MK4's aside for me, before the price goes up too much...
