Good starter cans for newbies?

I finally decided to go with the Senn HD650's. Next I'll probably start working looking for a pair of Grado RS1's or something a step up around that price range.

Does anyone have a decent amp they could recommend that isn't incredibly expensive? I was looking at a decent tube amp for around $200 or a solid state at around that price. Anyone have any recommendations for less than $300?

Much appreciated!

between the two? 701's for sure, they do require a bit of a burn in however. Not for your first time buyer. I'd recommend a sennheiser because its a good start point.

I have the 580 (modded with 600 grilles) and it doesn't need an amp from my X-fi. If you dare to listen to them on the go from a portable, then that's when you need an amp.

It has the best soundstage I have heard.

seems like you have decided to get 650, well congart.

got amps lower than 300, I would suggest Gilmore Lite, it is a great amp for its price.

If you want tube... then I guess Little Dot 2 ++ is a starter tube amp for you to try.

701s need a good amp to perform up to its level...
ath-a900 is a better choice imo
