I'd personally save up a bit longer and get a pair of JBL LSR305.

I highly recommend the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 system. It punches well above its weight, and can easily be scaled up by replacing the small monitors it comes with with better bookshelf speakers down the road. Mine has been very reliable with heavy use over 4 years.

+1 for these. Had them well over 10 years. For a simple desktop 2.1 system they do the job very well.

Get yourself the M-Audio BX5 D2's. Buy them used or cheap online and get a good quality DAC. Later down the road try and add a subwoofer. That is how I roll with them and they are awesome.

I'm not sure if you ended up going with the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 system, but I finally managed to kill the amp in my system. I suspect it has something to do with running non-factory speakers with the Klipsch amp, but who knows.

I have seen many comparisons of the promedias and the Logitech z623, many reviewers favor the z623 over the promedia as the sound is flatter and very monitor-like. I have mine set up to my creative titanium sound card and the sound is indistinguishable to my audio engine a5+ with the s8 subwoofer (all the the audio engine's go louder while keeping the clarity, the Logitechs become more party speakers when the bass dial goes up all the way) I've also heard the promedia subwoofer has a tendency to break because the grill is too close to the woofer so if you're gonna listen to very bass heavy music I suggest removing it (plenty of YouTube videos on how to do it, I believe it can be put back, don't quote me on that though)
