Is that even possible?

I can honestly say the V700-DJ are probably the best-looking
headphones I ever saw, but then again the sound sucks big time.
And pretty much all the good-sounding headphones don't look
so good (ei, everything except V700's

). The HD-580's are
starting to grow on me but humm.. I wouldn't know if I like
them until I can actually try/hear them.

I'm looking forward to buying headphones but I just don't know
what to do. I want good-looking headphones (that don't have
this arch popping on the top of your head like the HP890's), but I
also want good sound. I'm no audiophile, but I can enjoy good
sound.

I like how the CD1700 or CD3000 look, but they got that arch
(less with the CD3000 though...). I also like how the MDR-7509
look but I don't know, they are missing a little something. RS1's
are also good looking, with this little retro look but, ehm, kind of
out my price range (which is approx. $300 CAD max.). I was
thinking maybe either some V900 or HD-580, which cost roughly
the same.

Any pointers?

there's no contest.

Go for the hd580s. RUN away from the v900s. If it's looks you're going for, I think hte 580s have it in spades. I mean, looks wise, I like them more than 600s.

I have the same problem as you.

With the exception that I do actually like the V700's for listening to dance and nu-metal-type-stuff on the move.

I think the best that we can hope for at the moment is 'inoffensive'.

The Sennheiser HD280 gives new heights of meaning to the word "Dork", and the Audio-Technica ATH-A9X I've just acquired has proved to be a bit of a problem looks-wise... I look like I have two silver orange halves stuck to my head. The HD580/600, although relatively inoffensive, look like gardening implements modified for your head. My Grados won't leave my house unless I get a part in a movie as a WWII radio operator.

The thing is that, as amply confirmed by the majority of opinions here, looks don't count a lot for the rabid head-fier. Or maybe they're just geeks and don't care.

The Beyers currently on their way will hopefully be 'inoffensive'.

Since they've just been announced, noone can yet tell whether the Pioneer HDJ-1000 is any better than the V700 in terms of sound. If they are, looks like a good replacement.

Oh yea, almost forgot. My main type of music would be electronic
music. But not that kind where only the bass counts. Much more
like House music or Jazz/Lo-Fi. All that to say I don't want
headphones which will emphasise too much on base but just
put everything well and perfect. I'm saying that because I hear
the V700 have some kind of really ugly bass.

BTW Magic, I've seen your Princess Leila headphones. Pretty funny stuff you got there

I just hope they sound good. But I'm with you on saying I'd never go out with those on

I'm still not sure about the 580's though, I never actually had them on my head (or saw them irl) so my opinion may change.

Well - after having looked at myself in the mirror with the A9X's, I can say that I'm glad that I have at least aluminum-look cups.

With the W100's I would really look as though I had two wooden bowls strapped to my head.

Of the sound I have no doubt however...

Omg, I would definitly NOT go out with those wooden cups on
my head. And even less with those D66's. :|

If I want hardwood, I have a place just for it called 'floor'.

Magic, do you have any idea of the price for the HDJ-1000 ? They
look damn sweet.

I think my Beyer DT250's look better than most headphones. They may not look the most expensive, but they don't look like bowls on your head either.
I just got done modifying my Koss KSC50's so that they don't look something out of a sci-fi movie since those are what I wear in public most often.
