Hello everyone, this is my fist post on Head-fi, but i have been lurking around for about a year now. i don't know why i didn't bother to make an account after all this time but i have now, and i have a question.

The question, as stated in the title is: what headphones should i get to go with my Fiio E12? my current portable rig is an Ipod Classic 7th gen, Fiio E12 and ATH M50. i was wondering if you guys had any good suggestions for a closed headphone that provides a good upgrade from the ATH M50 that will pair well with my Fiio amp.

The most i would be willing to spend is 300 USD.

i listen to Classical, Jazz and electronic music.

Any suggestions?

Which version of the DT 770 is the best to get with the Fiio E12. the 250 ohm. 80 ohm or 32 ohm, and is the dt 770 really that much of an upgrade from the ATH-M50s?

you will be able to find answer by yourself, if you type "M50 vs DT 770" in search box of  this forum

If you not a serious basshead, get the K550, I think the over all audio quality of the K550 is better then the DT770s.
There are used K550s sold on eBay, even Harmanaudio (AKG) sells refurbs with factory warranties, on eBay.

ermmm I doubt the K550 bass quantity will satisfy the OP!

I am looking for an UPGRADE to the ATH-M50 and the impression that i'm getting is that they are comparable in SQ.

If i want to get something that sounds generally better than the ATH-M50 will the K550/DT 770 be what i'm looking for, or will i need to look at a higher-end headphone like the Mad Dog?

By the way, i have owned the HD 558s and i found them to be slightly lacking in bass(even after the foam MOD), so if the K550 has equal or less bass than the HD 558 i'm not really interested in it (unless its overall sound quality far out ways the lack of bass).

I recommend going with the DT770 250 ohm, or 600 ohm. The 80 ohm version is a bass cannon, but less so than the M50's. You will get more detail with the higher impedances, and if you want to increase the bass, the bass boost switch on the E12 is great.

If you end up wanting to upgrade even higher than the DT770, I HIGHLY recommend the Denon D2000. It has a good deal of bass, and loads more detail than the M50 and DT770. The bass is quality bass too, it isn't dominating the rest of the spectrum. They can be found in the FS forums for about $300. Worth every penny.

I would consider the D2000 but i hear they have very poor isolation and leak sound, which is not acceptable as i do plan to use them in public areas.

plus i already have the HE-400s for home use, and they have great bass.

is there much of a difference in SQ between the 600ohm and the 250ohm DT 770 given my source set-up(Ipod Classic 7th gen and Fiio E12)?

and again how much of an upgrade is it from the ATH-M50s to DT 770s?

will it really sound like a good upgrade with my E12?

The DT770 is a good upgrade from the M50. I can't compare the differences of the 250 and 600 as I've only heard the 80 Ohm and 250 Ohm versions, both of which I consider better than the M50's. There's just more detail over all. The bass is smoother in the DT770, the M50 is just in your face with bass.
