Do I need to cut them to get them on? Or does that just make it a bit easier? I've received my gel pads already and will have my cans by Friday (from order placed in China to delivered in 5 days!).Gels are becoming overwhelmingly go to pads at the moment. YMMV
They will fit without making a trim cut. However, it is much easier to put them on if you trim pads rim just enough.Do I need to cut them to get them on? Or does that just make it a bit easier? I would say, test/try it first and if you like what you hear, trim pads for better fit. (Cut about 5mm off the rim flange)

Soundstage isn't affected, but the sound is smoother and less "energetic" than the leather pads... in a good way. Combined with a mod I can see it being a good combo, but have not had the time to mod yet.How do the gel pads affect soundstage?

Because this is not just my first experience with the GL2000s but Hi-fi in general, I'll share a few songs on Tidal that have already impacted me in some way
The Postal Service - Such Great Heights
I've heard additional notes in the background and layers to the opening stereophonics that I'd never known existed until today. I turned around twice because I thought something made a noise in my room, but it was just faint notes I'd never heard before!
Disturbed - The Sound of Silence
Draiman's voice in this song covers the range from a buttery smooth baritone to a strained tenor with some growling thrown in and it all sounds clear and perfect to me.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Red Right Hand
... oh my. This song just drips atmosphere and I feel like these headphones separate the layers in a way that make me feel *in* the song
Panic! - Death of a Bachelor
Listening with both Truebass (Zen DAC) and XBass (Zen CAN) turned on... whoa! Too much normally but this one has that driving low end throughout the song and this combo really makes me feel it through headphones in a way I never thought possible.

If I may ask, are there any differences in comfort?

I tried to put a gel pad on last night without trimming it and I struggled, was not able to complete. I will trim and try again this weekend.
On the left is what it should look like after trimming.I tried to put a gel pad on last night without trimming it and I struggled, was not able to complete. I will trim and try again this weekend.
Yeah that makes sense. I really do like the Zen Dac. I made a review of GL2000 using Ifi Zen Dac/Zen Can hereAll our products are voiced to sound a bit on the warm fun side rather than analytical and cold. ZEN CAN in this context amplifies signal it gets from a DAC, so if this signal is already a bit warm, ZEN CAN will add a bit of its own flavor to it.
Since my bi-frost 2 and jot 2 are in, I wanted to do some more testing, I took mine apart again today and removed the dust film and the 2 tuning papers leaving it to reveal the drivers. The headphones just all of a sudden came alive and made me go "whoa" I am hearing things I wasn't hearing before. I think I am going to leave the tuning papers out for now.
