currently i own the DT880(250ohm) and i absolutely love the sound signature of these headphones with the LittleDOT MKIII combo. Stunning detail and clarity on any song i throw at it & probably one of the best movie watching/gaming headphones ever made.

but upgraditis has struck once again ! I probably would have use these as my main headphones, it's just that i listen to a vast amount of music categories & these just don't cut it for hip-hop/techno/mainstream songs that require heavy bass. I am probably gonna keep the dt880's for my jazz/classical & acoustic tracks.

So is the DT990/600 the one for me? I was also considering the Denon D2000 or Senn Hd600's. All gonna be amped on my LD MKIII

anything that's good all rounder with quality and pumpin bass when needed-->while maintaining quality

go for it. DT990/600 are great cans. Unless you're ready to spend 1k for the big boys, I'd say DT990/600 is a great choice. I had the HD650's but I quickly sold those. You'll be able to enjoy the beyer sound signature while getting the benefit of the 600 ohm drivers.

well if you already like the DT880 presentation and are looking for more bass the DT990/600ohm would seem like a logical choice. i really like mine. after going through sr225/k701/hd650/DT880/PL2500 i've finally found a can i can live with long term.

I really hated the DT990/600. The tonality seemed completely off and I still consider it bass light compared to heavy hitters like D2000 or Pro 900. Far too much treble emphasis. My HD650's were easily superior, in my opinion.

Of your choices I'd probably pick the D2000 if you want bass without compromising the other frequencies too much. But, you'd need a different amp, since I believe the LD MKIII is OTL.

no way i would spend 1k on headphones. Unless the Senn HD800's go on sale sometime soon

Looking to just spend around $300-$400. How were the bass on the HD650? and any experience with the Senn600?

i heard the dt990's are a tad bit better at movies/games. would u agree as well? cause if dt990/600 has the whole package, there's no point in keeping my dt880's anymore

arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. just when everything is going as planned, someone posts bad experiences with the cans that i was about to purchase.

I'm very anxious to either purchase the DT990/600 or the Denon D2000, but need more researching apparently . Is Denon bad with OTL tube amps?

any comments on the SENN 600's?

Buddy.. everyone has different opinions. The guy who hates the DT990 has not mentioned anything about the DT880.
He might just not like the Beyer sound signature at all.

Depends on the setup and preference

. When I tried them back when I had my microstack a few years back the 990's top end was a bit too much for me. But as I soon found out my microstack was quite a bright amp for both Grado's and Beyers alike. Unfortunately I haven't revisited the 990's since.

What I do remember liking about them is some damned fun bass, though the mids will be scooped as a sacrifice.

The DT990/600's have a healthy amount of bass. I've been listening to some Shiny Toy Guns on them lately and they sound great. I prefer my K702's for more acoustic music, but for energetic music the DT990's are fun. I can't comment on the D2000's as I have not heard them.

I had some hd580s which to my ears sounded exactly the same as the 600s. I even liked them a little better than the 650s. There were a lot of more expensive cans that came through my house, and most of them ended up leaving in favor of my 580s. I thought that I would never get rid of them. Well that is untill the dt990/600ohm came. Now the 580s are gone.

I assume that this headphone Denon D2000 can also be good option for bass lover headfiers.

The DT990/600ohm are great cans. I do think in the end that the treble was a bit hot for my tastes, but you should find them agreeable coming from the DT880 250ohm. You'd benefit from a dark/smooth source and amp here.

Someone asked how the bass of the DT990 compares to the HD6x0. Well, I owned both and I preferred the DT990's slam a bit more, even though they were slightly less extended than the HD650.

I have and love the DT880s, and I haven't heard the DT990 (250 or 600 ohm) however I would sugest that they may not be sufficiently different to warrant an "upgrade".

Based on what you are looking for, I would recommend the Ultrasone Pro900 as perfect and a good contrast to your DT880.
