sweet - elpac is here and it makes such a difference - no more clipping/distortion - what a great investment

Well i have to say after 400+ hours my gv5 has opened up fantasticly!!!

Im still havent tried it through the elpac yet.
A duracell ultra gave me about 16 days from 4-6 hours each day.
The sound is already mind blowing for me, without the elpac.

got these cx 300 senns other day for 25€, and the sound feels like 9/10.
Somewhere in the near future i will try some UE's or shures.

I saw some blokes wife in here other day asking advice on what gear to get for him, hope my lady snoops around in here as well for advice this X-mas..

Wishlist Santa:
1. Rsa Hornet
2. Rsa Tomahawk
3. some shure's or ue's

how many hours burn-in have you got on your gv5 dw6928 ?

im finding it hard to imagine how much better it will sound with the elpac(which im getting this thursday).

Im seriously blown away at how much difference it made with propper burn-in.

I was sceptical at first but i noticed a difference with my 701's(400+hours)
but there is night and day with the gv5 after propper burn-in.
Im very eager indeed to see what the tomahawk and hornet sound next to this gv5.

the tomahawk of course ill use with these sens, hornet the 701's
Rips wallet appart.. gotta be some more cash in here somewhere..

My govibe has about 300 hrs of use. The difference with the Elpac is difficult to measure accurately. It opens up the soundstage, tightens the bass and midrange and makes the highs more accurate (more power will do that).

Once more, with feeling:

Would this be compatible with the GV5? Or is the ampere rating too high?

The reason I'm asking is the Elpac has a far lower output current of 0.33 amp.

Anyone?

I had asked norm about and he mentioned that it was ok, the go-vibe would only take what it needed. i ended up getting the elpac in the end. you could try, but maybe check with norm first.

from the email:
You really want a linear regulated power supply. They only come in fixed voltages. Either 120v or 240v.
The current means very little since the amp will only draw as much as it needs.

post how it went, if it makes the gv5 sound better or if it burnt the amp...
i'm trying to find a 230V power supply but no luck yet. its cheaper to get a transformer.
all the best

anyone figured a way to make a good portable battery pack?

if you plug in a powersupply to the V5, will it charge the battery thats connected to the unit?

It'd be nice if you can cram 6 (roughly 22v in total) of the tiny nano batteries in the 9v compartment, but finding a suitable charger is the problem

I ordered mine on monday morning so i should get my V5 tommorow (i think i am in the same province as norm so shipping owuld take 2 days)

I have both of my 230mah 9v (really 7.2v because rechargebles are 1.2V each instead of 1.5v alkalines) nimh batteries charged up screaming to power the V5 when i get it. is this too little power?

I'm just curious. Now with my go-vibe v5, when I am adjusting volume it makes a scratching noise which is audible through my headphones. Is this normal? It didn't do this originally.

Unfortunately the Alps RK097 potentiometer is prone to developing those noises. It's a common pot in portable amps, especially DIY... essentially because of the convenience of the integrated on/off switch. Personally I'm not enthusiastic about it.
