I want to get a headphone for playing Battlefield 3 on my pc desktop. I want to be able to pinpoint an enemies location. I don't know if i should buy a really good stereo headphone or go the surround sound headset route. Price range $200, good isolation, big soundstage, excellent comfort for hours of wear.

Stereo:
Bose Ae2
Beyerdynamic dt770 pro
Ath m50s

Surround sound:
Razer Tiamat
Turtle Beach
Tritton ax720 pro
Corsair 1500
Astro mixamp
Razer Megalodon

I have owned the ath ad700 and astro a40 with mix amp but returned both. I disliked the ath ad700 for its lack of bass and open design. Astro a40 sound seemed muffled and not as detailed but the mixamp did make the game more immersive and really help loacte enemies so maybe pairing the mixamp with a higher quality headphone like the beyerdynamic dt770?

Any suggestions or oppinions will be greatly appreciated :)

m50's aren't gonna give you what you want, they have a small soundstage.  You also posted in the wrong forum so your not exactly going to reach your target audience.  Check out these links;
