Gaming: HD 598, DT 990, Q 701 or others?

Id say get the x1 or ma900, but if you must, I'd get the HD558.

I'd much rather have over ear headphones so I'm not sold on the x1's, and the ma900 look very flimsy so I am skeptical of those.

I picked up the AKG Q701s primarily for gaming. I couldnt be happier. Sound quality is off the charts when matched with my Magni+SoundBlaster Z. I can locate people in CS:GO with pinpoint precision at the maximum "hear-able" footstep distance. Makes lining up headshots through the wall before you popup that much easier. Highly recommended.

Well, I don't have a sound card but my main problem with the Q701s is the headband, is it really comfortable? Usually I'm gaming for extended periods of time and those leather bumps don't look too comfy.

AKG K612 Pro 120-Ohm headphones, $180.
I've been looking into the K612 lately, one reviewer preferred it over the AKG K7XX series.

In regards to this topic.... I am stuck between getting the 598's or q701 for console gaming only. The only thing I am sure of is buying the 2013 mix amp from astro. In regards to music preference I listen to a lot of 60's 70's rock and rap. (Random I know) but anyways I would be willing to get another amp/dac if it wasnt crazy expensive (100$) for the q701's if it would make them better then the hd598's out of the box. I am saying this because I read about 40 times that the q701's are less warm then the 598's and I feel like I would like more warmth. Any light shed on this matter helps me decide between the 2. Primary purpose again is 5.1 console gaming "god mode" as I believe madlust would say. Major kiddos to his game review but still need more help

Oh I almost forgot, I heard about needing a seperate amp if I want to use voice chat on these headphones. That was another reason why I didn't know if I should get one or the other. I realize how this is so subjective but I am new to all this and want to make the most informed decision before I drop about 400-500$ on all this...

If you get the Senn HD558s and remove the black rubber tape from inside the cups, you will have headphones that are almost the same as the HD598s.
And it should be easier for the Astro Mix-amp to drive the HD558/HD598, compared to the Q701s.

On Amazon used HD558s start out at $88.

This $19-$25 cable for the HF558, makes it a little easier to use the HD558 with a 3.5mm jack.

PurpleAngel thanks for answering.... I will have to look into those HD's... I don't know why I am stuck on the q701's... I really want them for their articulation but I think I'll be disappointed when it comes to listening to regular music on them. Since the HD598 doesn't need any more amping other then the astro amp it might just be the best thing to do. I have heard really good things on here about them. I will look into the difference between the 2 HD's before I make my mind up. That's a crazy difference in price...

I have the Q701 and personally feel that it is excellent for music (I do prefer a more neutral sound). It is very detailed. As for the headband, I didn't find them uncomfortable at all despite what ppl told me. In fact, it is very comfortable for me to wear for an extended time.
