friend wants to get a new pair of headphones

sooo, my friend wants to purchase a pair of cans for US$80 or less. Any recommendations?

I've got a couple but it would help if we had a bit more information.
What kind of music does he/she listen to? Does it matter if the cans are open or closed? Will they be used for anything besides music, say gaming or watching movies?

For not knowing what he wants, I can recommend a good all around headphone: the Audio Technica AD700's. They handle all types of music good, and they are excellent for gaming if he is into that. You can look them up, you will hear nothing but good about them and can be had for a $85, but some people say they are better than some headphones at over $250

MORE INFO:
 
she likes all music, and does like her bass( no headphones that beginners would call bass-light.) and closed portable headphones. and to the best of my knowledge, she doesn't game.

Just get her the ATH-M50.  She'll like it.  It's portable, can be driven from an ipod.  It's balanced sounding, very unlikely to offend anyone esp if they like bass.
