Hi,

I just bought the fiio e17k and am using it as a USB DAC for my PC.

When I set SPDIF Interface(FIIO USB DAC E17K) as the default device, I noticed a few issue with Kodi/XBMC (http://kodi.tv/)

Googling around, it seems like there are no problem with using the e17 as a USB DAC for kodi/xbmc so I am not sure if this issue is isolated to the E17K

This is what I encounter when the E17K is set as the default audio output in windows or the default audio output for kodi.

1) The loading screen appears for 5-10 seconds longer than usual. (It usually disappear after 1 second)

2) Frequent freezes when watching video when I try to move the window around, move the mouse around to show the video control etc (Sound would still play) (it doesn't happen with my on board sound card.)

I have tested and verified that this behavior happens on 2 of my computer one running windows 7 the other running windows 8.1.
I have tested with both Kodi (14.0) and XBMC Gotham (13.2) and both version of the application have the same problem.
I have tried reinstalling the DAC/Updating my graphic driver and the problem still exist.
I have tried using different USB cables and it still happens.

Is anyone else having the same problem?

Does the E10K have this problem?

Hello afoongwl,

I had forwarded your message of the same subject in pm to FiiO HQ, and thank you for your videos demonstrating the issue.

Unfortunately they have not yet been able to replicate your issue with the hardware we have.

I'll report back as soon as we have any findings. :xf_eek:

Best regards,
Joe

Hi Joe,

If they are unable to replicate the issue does that mean that there is something wrong with my E17k itself? I have recently upgraded my computer with a new motherboard + reinstalled windows 7 and the issue still exist.

Have you tried it with other computers? Does it work right on any?

Tried it on 3 separate PC in total.

Basically if I have the e17k plugged in and playing music through it (i.e. selected as output device in foobar etc) kodi will be extremely laggy (i.e. freezes, not responding etc) even if video is not playing in kodi and the default output in kodi is not set to e17k.

So what I am noticing now is.

Sound coming out through e17k -> kodi breaks
No sound coming out -> kodi is fine

If I read your pm's right playback on foobar itself was also problematic right? And this was tried on various USB2 as well as USB3 ports right?

If so I do suggest that you send in your unit. :xf_eek:

Quick update on this issue.

FiiO have been able to replicate the same problem with the E17K on their end so you might need to reconsider if you plan to use this with XBMC/KODI/Plex for home theater as they use the same back end.

I personally can confirm that this issue is not present in the E10K or E17 with the 3 application mentioned above.
