Free Burn-in Files

Anyone else cringing at how loud this gets? I had to turn it about 25% below normal listening volume and I can still hear it from the other room with fans going.

EDIT: Couldn't take it anymore and turned it to half listening volume. Anyone here used the Logarithmic sine on their SZ2000's?

All files have been professionally synthesized in stereo to the greatest of mathematical precision. There are no repeating parts, as found in a lot of so-called noise files today. They are 44.1kHz 16-bit stereo wav files. These contain rest periods of 30 seconds.

Logarithmic sine (Up from 30hz)

Arithmetic sine (Up from 30hz)

Pink noise:

White noise:
white.zip

I'll take requests for certain waveforms or frequencies/sweeps at any time.
All in all, it depends on your taste. I recommend downloading the pink noise and logarithmic sine and putting them on a looping playlist.

*Request!*
Any chance you could resynth/master/create/post these files in 24(..or even the notorious 32??)-bit/192kHz? In the interest of truly breaking a headphone in, wouldn't it be key to have it exposed to all possible frequencies/harmonics of them from the get go, lest we inadvertently "break them in" to only those sounds/demands within a 16/44.1 file, thus further diminishing any added quality of that extra range? Pretty please?

How much time for burning-in?

Burning in my recently acquired AKG K702 atm. Will pick up a Chord Mojo later today from the post office, have high hopes on this one! :)

As for the effect of burn in, based on personal experience, I believe it differs depending on the brand. On some pairs I have not noticed any improvement in sound. On my old Beyers DT-831 however, there was an astonishing difference after burn in. When newly purchased they could not be driven directly from my 1st gen I-pod I had at the time. There was just some tinny noise and upper frequencies, quite faint, at full volume. A few years later I found the old player in a drawer and decided to try it again, with the same headphones, that had now been extensively used. The I-pod now played perfectly listenable full bodied music with the volume set at 50%. I am not saying that sine waves and pink noise made all the difference here, probably just a lot of music over the years. But for susceptible cans, why not speed up the process a little. :)

Cheers / Johan

This is my first time doing this. I downloaded all 4 files, put them in a folder and am playing them in sequence in a loop. Is that OK??

I am doing it the same way. Some people say we should burn-in for 200 hrs plus.

Is this really effective? or just placebo? I mean I know the concept of burning in, but to use specific files is my question? I thought of just using the cans to whatever music/sound you can and will eventually loosen up.

I know this thread is ancient… but the most recent one I could find:smirk:.

I just used the ‘Audio Engineers Headphone burn-in HD‘ file from https://audioengineers.eu/burn-in-and-fine-tuning/ and can say I like my new Focal Elegia very much after burning them in (with the file and some music.)
Thank you, this is the only file I was able to download at my work PC. Putting it in loop with my UM 3DT.
