I've owned both and currently own the Abyss Diana V2.
It's safe to say that the TH-900 has more slam and impact, that much is clear. Also, the TH-900 has a wider soundstage. Other than these aspects I believe that the Abyss Diana V2 is better technically, has a more present mid-range, extracts more detail and has an absurdly good, non-fatiguing high-end.
Thanks for the perspective. I'm more of a casual listener than a critical listener. I jam these while surfing the web in my office. With your assessment it sounds like I'm better off just sitting back and continue to enjoy my Fostex TH900.
If the TH900 has more bass and more soundstage I don't see what I'm missing. If I want some vocals and whatnot I'll plug in my HD600s.
Am I correct in that?
As for those wanting bass demos I use these on my actual speaker system but gave these two a whirl on the Fostex now. Holy moly...

In this audio hobby and being in HF , you might have the best set up for you, but you will end up thinking you need more.
This is the absolute truth! Even when you have TOTL gear, your ears deceive you and brain believes them. It only takes one bad song or recording on your great gear to question your entire setup sometimes. In this audio hobby and being in HF , you might have the best set up for you, but you will end up thinking you need more.

Okay you convinced me to leave things alone.
I've gotten good these days of leaving things alone. This setup minus a swap from D7000 to the Fostex a few years back I've had the same rig unchanged since 2011.

i haven't compared the diana/v2 and empyrean to the th900 and i don't listen to edm, movie scores or modern rock/metal so i can't help you there. planar magnetics are renowned for bass tho and both the abyss ab-1266 and diana/v2 didn't disappoint imo.Hey just saw this post and looked at the Abyss Diana V2 and Phi and even the Meze Empyrean. How do those compare to the Fostex TH900 and specifically in the bass department? I mostly jam EDM music, movie scores, and modern rock/metal so I'm not the guy who jams the usual headphone music if you get me.
