Haven’t listened to my th900’s for about 3 weeks. Soon as I put them on, I am instantly reminded why I bought them. They are truly a pleasurable and unique set of cans!
likewise - i've broken mine out for a listen after a long hiatus and they never disappoint
Yep, they’ve been out what, about 8 yrs now? Still haven’t heard another closed (semi open) headphone I like more
they've stood the test of time ime

Anyone care to help me in fixing my Fostex TH900 headphones? I cannot get a seal on my head because of how loose the driver support has gotten. How do I fix this? See photos. The physical headphone driver and enclosure free spins and rotates now because this silver screw is popping out. I'm guessing I just need to tighten this screw but I have no idea how to get access to it. That's where I need some help/assistance.

Okay I will. Anyways it completely fell apart now. Took me 15 minutes on my hands and knees to find the stupid black screw on the carpet floor. Do I even need the spring to re-assemble? I don't see how it's doing anything given the driver on the right side there's zero movement of that part.

Sort of looks like you'll need a 90 degree screwdriver to match whatever the screw head is.

Well I'm looking at buying a new pair of headphones while I try and fix these. What's comparable these days? I'm so out of the scene. I've had my Fostex since 2017 and before that my Denon AH-D7000 for several years. My HD600 gives me the open air experience when I need it but point being I haven't researched anything nor have I swapped out much for a LONG time.

I mostly listen to modern music, electronic dance, and occasional musical scores from movies. What headphone(s) should I look at if I like the Denon/Fostex sound signature? I want bass.

Audeze looked kinda heavy
Focal Utopia didn't seem to be "all that"
MrSpeakers Ether Flow I've listend to it's more akin to my HD600 just nicer
HiFiMan Arya maybe?

Who and what else? I don't have a budget per say but I don't want to get ripped off either. If it requires 2000-3000 to get a good sound so be it. I run it all through a laptop that's plugged into an Audio-GD FUN.

I was thinking give some planars a try. Way back when (used to live up where Jude lives) I jammed some interesting stuff. Loved the HifiMan HE6 but stupid expensive as were the Stax SR009. Not looking to spend that type of money (either on headphones or the complimentary hardware to make them sound good).

Love my th900 and haven't bought a new full size since but this flaw needs to be addressed.

Both of my shaft (L,R) broke like the pics above from another user. I have repaired it a few times by removing the cups and tightening it. But one of the shaft has a half broke screw inside now so that's gone. Then the other size just won't hold.

It doesn't help that there's only one online business (Compass) that sells the part and they recently raised the price for the shaft from $22 to $32 for a small screw size shaft. I can afford it but I won't buy it because I don't think it's worth it anymore. And personally, I think they took advantage of the situation. Whatever, nature of business.

You can do what I did. Use a couple cents worth of black zip ties and call it a day. I'm not buying anymore things from Compass or Fostex.

I'm not trying to smack talk but more in hopes it gets the attention it deserves so they'll makes changes. I'm sure they are aware of it, but like anything in business, there needs to be enough reported cases to get them to act. I'll gladly support the next best Fostex pair when it's addressed.

it's a design flaw that has affected some units but the th900 isn't terribly built

i suspect that you may like the sound of both the abyss and diana but you might not like the design, fit or the prices

I actually did some Google searching on how to take this headphone apart. Friend of mine came over who is a headphone enthusiast so we tackled it together. In the end it's much easier having two hands holding the unit in place and a 2nd set of hands to put that screw back in place.

1.) Rotate the ear pad to remove
2.) Take out the four screws which now removes the cup from the driver
3.) Full exposure of screw seen
4.) Careful align and put screw back in
5.) Reverse steps to reinstall and I'm a happy camper!!! Plugged it into a source and it sounds as good as new.
